I just came back from a birthday party, and now i feel bad for dancing. Was I dancing bad? Well lets just say i’ve seen worse! I don’t feel bad about it because I wasn’t lusting after the girl, but then again something is telling me that it is wrong, what is the churches teaching on this.

How many times did you step on 'er foot? 😃

But seriously, I don’t see much dignity in modern dancing. Albeit that is my excuse for not dancing, a lot of suggestive movement seems to take place in most of my school dances. You could have caused the girl to ‘lust’, or condoned immoral behavior. But I really can only use a lot of ‘coulds’ here because I was not at said dance.

Dear friend

Parishes hold dances. No dancing is not wrong in itself, but anyone can take any activity or any thing and make it sinful if it is their desire to. You know whether or not you were having lustful thoughts and behaving out of line when you danced but don’t let that put you off going out dancing, rather curb your thoughts and always have yourself in the presence of God.

You know we could worry about sin too much to a point where we dare not leave our sofas and sit alone day and night, guess what would happen then, there would be sins of the mind where thoughts would roame into territory they shouldn’t.

It doesn’t matter how other people dance, you just keep yourself in the presence of God and have a good dance and enjoy your evening in a Christian manner and offer all of that joy and happiness up as prayer.

Get out and enjoy your life and be a Christian example to all of your peers, you are only young once and soon enough your body will age and won’t allow you to kick up your legs in the air and have a good dance. I am disabled and fairly young (34) and I would love to have a great good old dance.

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Dancing is only wrong if you were inspired to do so after watching Shreck 2… its a venial sin…

If you watched Harry Potter BEFORE dancing and THEN watched Shreck 2 …or vice versa, than its a mortal sin…those are the serious ones.

every thing on earth is good , what you have to do is be resposible and accountable for your actions, enjoy life but be alert.

I agree… In most school and many parish dances, there is a lot of suggestive dancing and music. I do not see either of these as positive for Christians, is it a sin? Possibly…but I would think that unless done intentionally, it would be more often be a near occassion of sin?

If you were doing what I have seen in popular dancing with the kids today–namely the girl’s butt rubbing around the guy’s groin–then I would say it’s definitely a sin. Dancing in general is not though. Remember, David danced before the Lord (sorry no cite, trust me, he did).

Hello everyone
While dancing, I remembered what our youth pastor would say, and that would be "Leave room for the holy spirit". We were dancing like mentioned above, but i left room between her butt, and my groin.

It depends on the type of dancing. I think alot of what goes on today with the younger crowd is probably sinful.

I think we should be modest in all our undertakings. A good rule of thumb: would you be comfortable with someone attempting to dance with your mother or sister or daughter in any particular way? If not, then perhaps it would be best to avoid to dancing that way with someone else’s mother or sister or daughter. I think we should avoid the whole “shake your groove thing” situation (If you dance like most white people aged 40 and over, you should be fine!:rotfl: Dennis Miller spoke of that awkward moment when we, as Caucasians, make the conscious decision to begin dancing, after we have walked to the dance floor and made several sad attempts to let it happen naturally).

I was wondering… with the popularity of dance clubs/bar amongst the college crowd, in your opinions, do you think it is possible to enjoy a sinless night in a nightclub/party atmosphere (not dancing in a provocative, suggestive manner & keeping alcohol to a minimum)?

Dear friend

I most certainly do think it is possible. The Christian is called not to run with the crowd that runs after the world, but to run after and with Christ Jesus. This does not mean that we hide away from the world , we live in the world and we are part of the world and being in the world and living in Christ Jesus we have the golden opportunity to change the world in Him.

Christ Jesus went to the Wedding Feast at Cana, there would have been music and dancing, there was certainly wine. Jesus did not sin at this party, as we know He is God incapable of sin, He probably danced and He certainly drank wine, but He certainly went there and did not sin, neither did His Blessed Mother Mary; He went to the celebration and He enjoyed a dance and a drink.

Christ Jesus also went into places where sinners hung out, alot of dancing and drinking going on there , the kind that is sinful. Excessive drinking and provocative dancing. He didn’t say, this is a terrible place I am never coming here again and turned on His heel and left them there to die in their sins. He stayed and told them the Gospel.

Now we are not going to start preaching verbally in a club, well maybe we would I don’t know, but nonetheless, we preach by our actions. How we behave ourselves and it takes ALOT of will power and resolve in Christ Jesus not to join in the activities so, we must remember to avoid the ‘occassion of sin’…if such a place would be an occassion for sin for a person, then such places are best avoided. But if they are not going to tempt you to sin, then go to such places as clubs and pubs and be an example of what it is to live in Christ Jesus, enjoy your evening and offer it up as prayer. If we live in Christ Jesus He is our strength against all sins.

Pray for those who you see in such places who are falling into sin and living a Godless life. Christ Jesus has no eyes but your eyes, no hands but your hands and no mouth but your mouth…whatever you hear and see pray for that with you mouth , heart and mind. Whatever you see and hear that is against God make reparation for it yourself and offer your love to God by way of reparation. Whatever you see and hear that is gives glory to God, whatever you see and hear that is a kindness, a mercy, is loving then offer thanks to God.

Wherever you are be most merciful to the sinner because we are one ourselves. All a sinner needs is for someone to love them. Give them the love and kindness of Christ Jesus to all people’s and seeing that in you, they will be drawn by God through you to Christ Jesus.

The world needs Christ Jesus and the world needs His disciples, Christians, to bear witness to His love, mercy and kindness and in doing so increase His flock and bear good fruit.

Having said all of this there does come an age in life where clubs are not a place you would dream of going to 🙂 , tastes change as we get older, so while we are young, we should use this opportunity to reach other young people who are so very lost and do not know their Divine Creator, He is either non-existant to them or He is held in mistrust and scepticism and therefore they reject Him.

Keep ourselves in the Presence of God and never forgetting we are constantly in His Presence is the failsafe barrier to committing sin and in remaining in His Presence and recollecting Him, we are able to then bring HIm into every place, experience, activity, relationships and encounter of our lives.

Our Sweet Lord Jesus is God Himself, but He is constantly recollected to His Father in Heaven, every action and every word is to do the Father’s Will, so we too must remain in our Father’s Presence and seek to do His will wherever we are, God’s grace will help any soul willing to do this, achieve this. It is the joining of our will with God’s will constantly throughout the day.

Let us be like our Mother Mary recollected to God and constantly contemplating Him in our hearts, living in His Presence and by our lives giving glory to Him. As Our Blessed Virgin Mother Mary said ‘Whatever He says to you, do it’

The night out at a club in the Presence of God is then Prayer.

God Bless you and much love and peace to you
