Is dancing wrong?

I think if you’re doing your basic ballroom dancing, e.g. foxtrot, waltz, jitterbug, things like that, you’re probably fine.

Sometimes ballroom dancing, especially some of the Latin styles, will sometimes seem more overtly sexual. But I think it’s still possible to do a nice tango or mambo without being indecent.

Even informal “dancing” or just moving your feet & hips in time with the music is usually fine, although the stuff where you are basically miming sexual activity on the dance floor is of course not appropriate.

i saw on the discovery channel that dancing is really a way that people gauge the health and thus mating potential of their dance partners. the better you dance the better you …

It’s all in your heart. Even the traditional ballroom dancing can be wrong and modern slow dancing can be right, depending on your attitude.

Dancing is not wrong because it’s a specific sequence of moves. Heck, it doesn’t work like that even for sex. Wrong is if you sin in your thoughts or lead someone to sin.

You said you didn’t do anything sexual in the dance, so how could you have personally sinned? It doesn’t look like you could possibly have led your dancing partner to sin, so how again?

Even priests dance. Nothing wrong about just dancing. It was even used in prayer in the Old Testament.

I was wondering… with the popularity of dance clubs/bar amongst the college crowd, in your opinions, do you think it is possible to enjoy a sinless night in a nightclub/party atmosphere (not dancing in a provocative, suggestive manner & keeping alcohol to a minimum)?
I would say it’s 99.9% impossible to enjoy a sinless night in a club. Maybe if you go with a group who shares your views, otherwise no way. I’ve been in the same boat, my friend.

I remember reading that St. Teresa of Avila danced also. If anyone could elaborate…

I can’t elaborate on St Teresa, but I don’t think it’s sinful if you go to a club dressed modestly and you dance without groping.

People tend to think that the whole of modern music and modern culture is evil and sinful and a work of Satan, but come on… this was said about TV or cars or planes or medicines in its own time.

Putting fingers where they don’t belong is sinful, but polite dancing? Sure, slow dancing looks overly generous if it’s done with strangers, but with friends it may well be hugging rather than groping, so why sinful? Ballroom dancing or fast dancing… why sinful, again? Excess is bad, giving up mental control is bad, but having fun is not.

I do regret putting fingers where they didn’t belong in my younger years, but I don’t regret casual dancing, like ballroom dancing, plain fast dancing or even slow dancing with friends. I don’t see anything wrong in that.
