Is debt a sin?

I was wondering what the church thinks about debt?

No, debt is not a sin; however, it is a sin if you carelessly run into debt that is beyond your power of payment.
 
Money can be used for good or evil. There is certainly nothing inherently wrong with responsible borrowing and manageable debt.
 
Money debt is more about your neighbor

I agree with the others here, the debt isn’t the sin it is what you do with that debt. If I was to carelessly keep accruing debts, that I would never, ever be able to afford, for an earthly want and not a life sustaining need sure could be one in my book.

Debt? No, usurous interest rates on it, oh yeah.
Especially if the ‘banker’ goes by the name ‘Knuckles’ 🙂
