Is Desecration of the eucharist a problem?

The majority of the people in the pews commit sacrilege by their reception of the Eucharist anyway, not that that excuses it.
" 9To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood up and prayed about[a] himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ " – Luke 18

Desecration of the eucharist isn’t a problem?
How would you feel if someone spat on your mother?
Then someone came up to you and said this is not a problem.
Catholics believe the eucharist is God,

These people find anger funny . . .
I am reminded of the Internet movies by cruel pranksters who film the reactions of normal, caring, and loving people who grievously witness them pretending to accidentally harm their babies while strolling down the street, or pretend to leave an occupied carseat on top of their moving car, etc.

As someone else said, anger is a natural reaction to cruelty done against someone you love and care about.

Desecration is a problem in the Novus Ordo service everytime it is placed in the hand and everythime it is distributed by lay ministers.PERIOD!!!

I agree with CallistusPM. another comment…I have found particles of the Eucharist
scattered around the Church from time to time even in front of the Tabernacle. We should pick them up and consume them. If this not possible they should be dossolved in water
and poured into the sacrarium(I think that is the name of it) in the Sacristy) If:thumbsup: in doubt
ask the pastor…Hugh

Its not just the callous handling of the Eucharist which desecrates the Eucharist. It is also the receiving the Eucharist in a state of mortal sin. For example if a Catholic misses mass one week (without valid excuse) and then goes to mass and receives the Eucharist the next week without first going to confession and being absolved of their mortal sin, then they are desecrating the Eucharist. I wonder how many Catholics of today understand that?

Of course there are a whole array of mortal sins which statistics show us are being practiced at unparalled rates. These include adultery, fornication, divorce, dodgy anullments, birth control, abortion just to name the obvious ones. And yet never in the history of the church have so many Catholics received the Eucharist, (every week almost like automatons). Its like an assembly line.

Whereas how long is the line to the confessional. There is none. In fact I have NEVER seen the confessional used at my local parish. Something is awfully, awfully wrong with our church and it goes much deeper than careless communion in the hand.
My guess would be that those conditions would encompass upwards of 80% of those receiving on any given Saturday or Sunday receiving.

So does this mean taking the Eucharist in hand is desecration? I always take it in hand and then eat it, but would never dream of desecrating it.

Throw in missing Sunday Mass and gossip and sins of the flesh and the whole COTT/CITH argument becomes a moot point.

its not a desecration. the Church allows it. why would the Church allow something thats a desecration?
as long as you receive it in the hand from a minister (bishop, priest, deacon, EMHC, etc) then you’re good. but even if you take from the chalice yourself, while its illicit and an abuse, it still not a desecration by itself

Since the publication of a document called Memoriale Domine in 1969,[5] the Apolistic See of the Catholic Church has allowed certain countries to allow communicants to receive the Host in the hand, rather than directly onto the tongue, reviving an “ancient custom”.[5] Communion in the hand is now widespread in many parts of the world. **The practice means that access to consecrated Hosts is easier than in the past, since the person receiving it in the hand may pretend to place it in their mouth for consumption. **However, recent statements and practices of Pope Benedict XVI[citation needed] have caused a recent shift in Catholic practice of receiving on the tongue while kneeling, which is also an ancient practice.

I had not personally witnessed someone desecrate the Eucharist. I heard some stories about it. True or not, I am not sure.

Anger (rage) is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Love:D not anger must prevail.

I believe believers attend Church services with true reverence for the sacredness of the consecrated Bread and Wine.:gopray2: Making them love the Holy Mass more will make them even better Christians. They will receive communion, in whatever ways, properly and with dignity.

If it so happen that this problem occurs among believers, it may mean more effective ways of informing them are necessary.

As for those who come to Church with ulterior motives, they are to be pitied not hated, and if one were to follow the teachings of the Church, to be forgiven and prayed for so that God will hopefully change their lives.👍

I’ve heard stories, but never seen it. If I saw someone mess up the eucharist, I’d smack them upside the head.

I also feel that receiving the Host on the tongue should be encouraged. In Kerala, a highly spirited Catholic State in India, some of the Syro-Malabar Dioceses have reverted to giving the Holy Communion on tongue and strictly not give it in hand. I agree that desecration can still be done, but the Church can at least satisfy its responsibility of giving the Holy Communion in the safest way. Still if someone insists to desecrate, we have to leave him to the mercy of God. St. Paul warns about the harm that can be caused by receiving the Host without proper preparation. This is applicable to everyone.

Realistically, that’s all the Church really can do at this point.

Doubtful that most Novus Ordo churches have sacrarium; probably don’t even know what they are (small sinks in sacristy which empties into the ground.)
The careless handling of the sacred host in many cases is because 70% or so of Catholics and clergy no longer believe in the Real Presence.
Also, there was a study done a few years ago by a Traditional Catholic publication that actually analyzed the amound of crumbs that fell from minister’s hand to communicant’s hand and from his/her hand to mouth. Astonishing as to how many small particles fell and were scattered. Only the priest should touch the Sacred Host. His thumb/forefinger are considered sacred and, if I recall correctly from my pre-Vat.II days in the seminary, there was a special liturgy for the blessing of these . That is why we could not play contact sports; had to substitute things like touch/flag football. HMC has come a long way in just a few years; it is not the church I was brought up in (exceptiopn: Extraordinary Liturgy, if you can find it.)

I beg your pardon! How is it helpful to make sweeping, uncharitable generalizations unsupported by any factual data?
