i have a client that i care for on weekends, though that may change to full week days later if i keep this job.the client is a man of 32 years with severe mental retardation and physical handicaps living with his mother who is not completely well herself. she goes to dialysis 3x a week. i noticed, but made no mention so far, of the dnr notice posted on the fridge. dnr of course = do not resuscitate.
my question is, if something such as a stroke should occur is it morally correct for me to follow the order or must i go against that order and try to help since i do know cpr? would it be a mortal sin to let him die without trying to help him to the best of my ability? what am i supossed to do? and what should i say to the mother? i need the work but not at the risk of my immortal soul.
