This is slightly strange. Sometimes my dad just stares at me and it makes me uncomfortable. It feels like he’s looking at me lustfully, which may not be wholly true. Maybe it’s some weird wound I have. Anyway, I went and told my mom that I feel uncomfortable and she was angry and asked me to ask God pardon. So I was wondering if doubting my father is sinful, and if it is, if it’s grave. Thanks.

Yes, doubting or suspicion is a sin, especially when you know the truth, the fourth Commandment is honor your Father and Mother ,respect them for what they are,i think you need to say the forgiveness prayer each day or make an examination of conscience each night before you sleep, they may be possible childhood hurt feelings which by prayers and surrendering everything in the hands of Jesus each day or during Mass will be of help ,ask Jesus to pour his precious blood on your mind body and soul and heal your wounds etc,God Bless

Sirach 37:10 Do not consult the one who regards you with suspicion; hide your intentions from those who are jealous of you.

1 Timothy 6:4 is conceited, understanding nothing, and has a morbid craving for controversy and for disputes about words. From these come envy, dissension, slander, base suspicions,

James 1:2 My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; 4 and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.

5 If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. 6 But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; 7, 8 for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

I do not think you committed a sin here, though I don’t think it was probably wise to talk to your mother about it.

Hmm I’ve had this weird feeling ever since I was a kid. It’s weird don’t you think to have these thoughts?? I talked to a priest and even a counsellor but nothing seems to shed any light into this matter. It’s terrible to have these thoughts, it ruins my day.

How old are you? Besides staring, is there other evidence you have?

(Feel more than free not to answer. If you’ve talked to a counselor, no one here will probably illuminate anything more).

Nope! Just this. My dad’s mentally ill too I think and he sorta spaces out every now and then. I just feel I distrust him because he wasn’t around when I was a little girl and I’ve also seen him watching porn etc. That may have colored my opinion on him. sigh
21. I’m 21.

I’ve tried praying about this but all I feel is that I’ve been abused when I was a kid (that’s what the counsellor thought too).

I don’t think your suspicion is “out there”, then. I think it’s quite possible. Whether it’s true or not. you cannot control how your father feels. You could, however, directly tell him that it makes you feel uncomfortable when he spaces out, looking at you. Do you have any guesses how he would respond?

Yep, I’ve told him. He feels really bad and he started acting more carefully around me. I know he’s not evil or anything but I was just wondering if being suspicious was sinful.
Speaking of incidents, I do remember him kissing me at night (forehead) till I brushed him off. (Nobody kisses anyone in my family, its just not part of our culture.) Since I was already suspicious, that incident only made me avoid him even more. It sometimes feels that he’s obsessed about me and about sex too which creeps me out even more. I think the stories of incest I heard as a kid made me view my father with suspicion (who I never really bonded with) , which the weird activity compounded.

He sounds like a sex addict, and I’m so very sorry that you’ve had to put up with him. 😥

Given the evidence you have, PLEASE do not feel guilty for suspecting him. Your mother is enabling him, and she should be the one who is ashamed of herself.

Hmm maybe. Or my mom is just unaware. Lol. Yes I think he’s an addict too. I feel sick.

Does your Father go to Mass on Sundays or the sacrament of Confession ?

Occasionally. And I think some of the trait has been passed on to me too. I was sinning sexually until a two to three years ago, from when I was a kid (4-5 years). I still get weird sexual thoughts that I’m afraid I’ll act out. I’m planning on moving soon, and I hope whatever the problem is soon gets fixed. My horror is that my actions will bring dishonor on my family or hurt my mother and brother (both of whom the thoughts target). It depresses me like crazy and I’ve often thought of suicide is the only way out. I just climbed out of anxiety. Gosh.

Yes my dad does pray. He’s very doting and kind. By sometimes the thoughts come. He’s actually a really good person, and when I’m much more clear headed I feel that the thoughts are ridiculous. But then it comes again.

Sorry, it’s hard to “check” online. 🤣

As a person who has experienced pornography addiction, let me say that your dad could be the kindest, most sincere and wonderful person, but that this sexual drive inside him is very dangerous. I do feel like there is a generational spiritual reality here that you need to break. I would be really surprised if your mother has absolutely no idea what’s going on.
