Hi,

My sister is in college now in Missoula. Should I still keep the CDs I burned from her or not? Thank you for replying to my messages. Oh and is it sinful to download podcasts episodes and songs off of itunes if it’s free? Cause I have been downloading podcast episodes. It says it’s free and I subscribe to it when I download it, and I put it on my ipod. Is this a sin I have done by downloading them if they’re free? I am not going to put them on any CDs. Should I stop downloading them even though they are free? Thank you and God Bless.

Amy:)

What does the ToU (terms of use) of the service say on the subject?

I download plenty of podcasts off of iTunes which are free. If it says it’s free, then it’s free. Including Catholic Exchange Today, which I would recommend:)

And it’s assumed with iTunes that you are gonna put it on your iPod…

There is no sin there. Now if you somehow downloaded something for free that you SHOULD HAVE paid for, then it’s a different issue…

Yeah man,

If they say the podcast is free than it is free!

As for the CD’s, someone correct me if i am wrong but i think…i repeat…i think that if the CD was originally purchased and your sister makes a copy for you (as in not sells it to you) then that is ok under the law.

That i believe is the law that was passed. As long as you buy a cd you may burn it as a long as you are not making a profit off of someone else’s music

NOPE IT IS NOT A SIN.

If it were then the Catholic Church would not be producing podcasts and allowing them to be downloaded free of charge!

www.sqpn.com is a Catholic Apostilate that started out as the Star Quest Podcast Network but has since changed its name to the Star Quest Production Network since they now do both audio and video podcasts. They offer about 20 different podcasts varying from family life to the prayers.

www.catholicundertround.com is another podcast provider that is clearly Catholic.

You can even download podcasts from Catholic Answers!

That website is actually catholicunderground.com , not ‘underTround’

Like everyone else said, if it says it is free, than it is free. No problems downloading it.

CD’s of illegally downloaded music should be discarded. Podcasts are free and legal, so there is no problem. I know it’s hard, but don’t download music illegally any more. I quit years ago.

If iTunes is offering for free, it’s obviously free and legal.

Podcasts are usually free anyways.

Glad to see you care though, good to see people doing the right thing when it comes to this music issue.

It is still illegal and very wrong to do. The copyright does not say “It is ok for you to make copy and distribute”, does it? 😉

concerning the cds simply visit the manufacturs, music label web site and read their take on copyright law.
