Please help me as there is a dispute with my family about whether or not it is appropriate to use the word Easter. One of my family members says that she has researched that the word Easter derived from an evil spirit named after a woman.
We have been advised that we should refrain from using the word Easter and instead replace it with the word Resurrection. She said that a spokesperson with EWTN has confirmed her findings.
Whatever help you can give will be truly appreciated.
God Bless You and we would like to make a donation for your great mistry!

Hi,

This is what the Old Encyclopedia says about it:

oce.catholic.com/index.php?title=Easter

So it comes from an obscure non-Christian goddess. Christianity has used many names from such sources. The fact is, the Church uses it to name the day AND the season. So tell your family member that this is not a mager matter. If the Church officially uses it, then it has to be ok.
