Is energy per se a universal?

When posting this I am assuming that you are not a nominalist.

Since energy per se is a scalar physical quality of matter, would you consider it a universal?

For a moderate realist like myself, that would mean it is multiplied and individualised within particulars.

Yes… unless… you define it too exactly as Science has.

Force is really the universal. But that is almost the same thing. Energy is the “potential to do work” or “force density”. :o

Energy is made of force and calculated by Science using mass or wavelengths along with force (amplitude) to indicate how much work can be done rather than merely how much impetus there is to get it done.

Society has an analogous energy (the energy crisis) which is calculated in a similar fashion; “mass(people) * desire = work (social energy)” (= MONEY!!!) 😃
