Oh my goodness, things always look so different from far far away. Instead of pounding on Islam, we should all think of the one and only principle we’re supposed to live by :" Love thy neighbor ". I’M in Germany right now, the heart of secularism, as some would say. Believe it or not, the Christian thought as a whole is still alive. Faint, subtle, but it’s there, and those who are practicing it are doing a mighty fine job. We have a very lively parish here, ecumenically oriented ( that’s all debateable, I must say, not too fond of it, it mixes Lutheran and Catholic too much ), and yes, they have single parent groups etc. These things exist, homosexuals exist. I don’t think we can all go around condemning everybody. That’s NOT our place to do. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think homosexuality is right or the practice of it, but instead of denying homosexual Catholics their rights, we should maybe look into alternatives such as support groups where abstinence can be promoted. Just an idea, I don’t know. Call me liberal, but I can’t imagine Our Savior condemning certain groups as we dare do. I know I know, it’s against Church policies, and I’m behind it, but why not try and help people instead of isolating them?
As for the Muslim population, yes, they do have a stronger motivation somewhere to have more children. Why, who knows? I deal with Muslims every day, I believe it must be a test from above to see how I can be a good Christian amidst the huge population of Muslims around me. I will treat them with respect, so far that’s what I’ve gotten back. But anyway, this is another object. Really guys, Europe as a whole isn’t that bad off. Please don’t stereotype us all. We’re all brothers and sisters in Christ, pray for us all,
Peace to all of you
GregoryPalamas:
To put the matter directly: Europe, and especially western Europe, is in the midst of a crisis of civilizational morale. The most dramatic manifestation of that crisis is not to be found in Europe’s fondness for governmental bureaucracy or its devotion to fiscally shaky health care schemes and pension plans, in Europe’s lagging economic productivity or in the appeasement mentality that some European leaders display toward Islamist terrorism. No, the most dramatic manifestation of Europe’s crisis of civilizational morale is the brute fact that Europe is depopulating itself.
