Is Euthanasia always forbidden?

Is this even euthanasia?
What gives the impression the poor guy wanted to commit suicide? Just because you can’t imagine living like that doesn’t mean someone else would not want to hold on to life.

I’d call it more murder.

When you start holding the right to life over others there’s an issue.

More interesting example -

Film version of Last of the Mohicans
Someone is being burnt alive already wounded. Rather than let him burn to death, title character makes eye contact with victim, and the other party nods back, from a distance, title character shoots victim.

I will tell you right now it is tough not to see that this is the most moral option.

Well, just to clarify, the guy eventually starts banging his head on the cushion in Morse code patterns to tell the doctors of his wish to be euthanized

I am not making a statement on its compatibility with Catholicism. Just saying it is difficult for me to condemn that action.

Well, with the guy with no limbs and no hearing or sight, if he can bang out messages in morse code, he can still communicate. He can also be communicated with through touches on his body in morse code. Which means he can learn brail. Which means he can learn a great many things. I find it harder to kill this man morally.

You do not need limbs to learn brail. And brail is not the point. He can still communicate and be communicated with through morse code

The last thing I want is to argue with you, so could you please explain briefly how could you read Braille without hands? I realize it’s not the point, I’m just curious

So, the following is not directed at you. I am just discussing the danger of adopting particular policies vis a vis the disabled.

So not the point too. If our guy knows Morse code, then he knows a method of communication that requires but the ability to feel human touch.

And this is actually kinda the concern a lot of people have. We may incorrectly think he cannot learn brail because he has no hands. We then forget about other methods of communication. We decide that this man cannot communicate. We were wrong, but we decided that we were right without asking him - he is just an abstraction anyway.

So, we tell the disabled what they are, and are not capable of, without recourse to reality, and then we impose the judgment that their life is without value. Makes no difference if we appeal to their consent. We would not appeal to the consent of a non-disabled man. We make the exception for this or that catalog of disabilities because, in the end, we see a depreciation of value in the quality of life, such that we say, “Okay,” to suicide, when we would not for others.

If he can communicate it implies he still has the capacity to reason, and therefore should be tried to be reasoned with. Even if he has to communicate through Morse code, it is still possible.

Euthanasia, even if it seems merciful, is a false mercy.

Oh, you think that is amazing?

You have no idea. I have worked with the disabled my whole life.

Thank you, but I got paid for most of it, haha. I was just saying I have got to see some pretty amazing stuff over the years.
