Unfortunately i dont have one. There is one priest i see on and off who i really connect with, but ive never asked him nor will i ever ask. I get the feeling the priest doesnt want ANOTHER person to spiritually direct. Of course, if you meant confessor as any priest i confess to then… yes… i could bring it up, but the response is usually… love God, love everyone, dont sin. etc…Nothing is unnecessary when it is done with an intention to offer it to God. Also, for our little pleasures, we can enjoy and give thanks to God.
However, it seems to me that it is good to examine our lives to see the value of our activities. Life is so short, after all.
Perhaps you could talk to your confessor?
You don’t need Biblical references to back this one up - didn’t God create flowers? Are they useful? No. Are they beautiful? Yes. And the mass talks about ‘free us from all anxiety as we wait in JOYFUL hope for the coming of our saviour …’Unfortunately i dont have one. Della, you said “God created the world for our happiness as well as our salvation”. Have you any Catholic teaching that backs that up? I thought this world was for suffering and the next was the happy one?

unnecessary to whom? who decided it is unnecessary? do you mean wearing socks with shoes, not strictly necessary, or butter on your bread, or leisure time activities and entertainment? do you mean devotional practices? do you mean any activity outside work? Do you mean rejecting pleasurable sights, sounds and activities and enjoyment of God’s creation? If you suffer from scrupulosity the classic spiritual directors would advise you to choose one good priest as a spiritual director and confessor, discuss your spirituality and struggles with him only, and not solicit random advice and comments from others.Ive reached ultra scrupulous mode.

Very good advice. I’d take that advice from Puzzleannie if I was you.If you suffer from scrupulosity the classic spiritual directors would advise you to choose one good priest as a spiritual director and confessor, discuss your spirituality and struggles with him only, and not solicit random advice and comments from others.
Well, to be honest, the thing that is getting me now is playing a musical instrument. Its definitely not necessary, but i enjoy it so much. Also, i love performing, but i feel that this life is for suffering.unnecessary to whom? who decided it is unnecessary? do you mean wearing socks with shoes, not strictly necessary, or butter on your bread, or leisure time activities and entertainment? do you mean devotional practices? do you mean any activity outside work? Andre, the Blessed Mother said it to them, not to you. Unless you have a private revelation from the Blessed Mother that you are meant to suffer a life of abject unhappiness, you have every reason to believe that though sufferings and unhappiness will come in all our lives the beauty of the world is given to us to rejoice in and participate in in legitimate ways. Your music and the gift you have been given is not something God wants you to squander because of some disordered notion about seeking only unhappiness. Use your music for His glory and to bring others to appreciate beauty and the God Who is the source of all beauty.Well, to be honest, the thing that is getting me now is playing a musical instrument. Didnt Mary say to the Fatima girls “I do not promise you happiness in this life, but in the next” ?. . .
God did not create us for suffering, he created us for happiness. Since through the sin of our first parents sin and evil entered the world, so did suffering. God sent his son to suffer for us, since only his suffering is sufficient to remit the sin and evil and redeem us from its effects: suffering and death. To the extent that suffering is still part of life on this defective earth, we unite our suffering with those of Christ and thus partake in the redemptive power of his suffering. But we are not obligated to seek out suffering., i love performing, but i feel that this life is for suffering.

Also, Della, all your quotes are from the OT, the NT speaks of giving up everything for Christ etc… and all the saints seem to equate this life with suffering.
Anyone feel what Im saying?
