So, you’re saying that The Catechism of the Catholic Church is wrong. Sorry, that’s not acceptable to this Catholic.
No,I am not saying that but you want to even say what I am saying - sorry that is not acceptable to this 81 year old Catholic - twinc

When speaking of it as only a scientific hypothesis, as an attempt to understand how laws of nature works it is compatible with Catholicism. But when it is used outside of the discipline of science in debates as a “theory” or as a “fact” to elbow God out of the picture in the creation of mankind, a theory that has mankind evolving in a godless universe and the belief of God is just some remnant superstition from man’s early evolutionary stage that is when it is incompatible with Catholicism.

you and some others may just be interested on the Irish take on the 6days -see it under the tricolour at www.daylightorigins.com - twinc
Irish take? Nice try. An appeal to National pride won’t work, and believing each creative day was 24 hours long will not make anyone ‘more Irish.’

One website represents the views of a group of people who happen to be Irish, not a Nation. Therefore, there is no ‘Irish take’ on the 6 creative days. I’m all for freedom of expression, and if someone wants to start a website to promote their ideologies, that is their right. To quote what someone else stated, ‘I may disagree with what you say but I would defend your right to say it.’ However, the downside of that is like many other countries, Ireland has an abundance of wacky religious websites which cannot be relied upon for accurate information.

I know a priest who lectures in scripture and is head of Religious Studies at a Catholic University College. He always warned his students, to beware of the internet, because anyone can start up a religious website, claim it is authoritative, and there are religious websites out there that are just wacky. You don’t know who is behind an internet site, or what their agenda is, and there are people who use the internet simply to promote their own ideas. and in the literature.’ Students taking Religious Studies at this college are not permitted to use websites as sources when referencing. Of course in this day and age, students do use the internet as a quick means of retrieving information. However, unless the information can be validated by authoritative literature, it’s not accepted as a recognized source.

Suffice to say, I tend not to be swayed by what I read on the internet sites; particularly religious one’s. Therefore, providing me with links to websites, even if it is run by people who happen to be Irish, is a complete waste of your time.

I did not say acceptance of the six days was binding but acceptance we did not evolve was binding by Lateran Council and Vatican 1 - the Church also teaches that the consensus of the Church Fathers who wrote on the subject believed that the creation period was no longer than 6 x 24hr days and that we must believe any interpretation of scripture that the Fathers taught unanimously[Council of Trent and Vatican 1] - btw neither the kolbe centre at www.kolbecenter.org or www.scripturecatholic.com are my final source of appeal or reference but my source for providing sources that I at 81 and now just barely able to type just cannot - twinc
So, are you now saying that Catholics don’t have to accept the six days were 24 hours long, but you think they should?

of course it is not just about you - I did say you and some others - twinc

If it is testable, when will the test be that shows hydrogen gas turning into butterflies, bunny rabbits, and people?

Pax
Indeed. And how many weeks will it take for a cave of volcanic rock and amino acids to create the entire works of Shakespeare?

So, are you now saying that Catholics don’t have to accept the six days were 24 hours long, but you think they should?
Catholics dont have to really accept anything but the Church says they should accept certain things like the six days of creation in the proper sense being 6 x 24hr days - twinc

So, are you now saying the Church says ideally Catholics should accept the creative days were 24 hours long, but it’s not mandatory? Or are you saying that it is mandatory but if they choose not to, the Church can’t force them to?

i believe 7 days the earth was created, but you gotta remember something, how long is a day when the bible was written? i mean we dont even use the old calendar anymore, so 2011 isnt even 2011 if you use the old calendar., but god created us in his image, he didnt say we were guuuu, and genesis, says we were man, and points how creation happened.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_and_evolution

people talking for the church without information to support there views, the bible shows how we were created…i dont reject gravity, god created rules of the earth, this is sad, this is a the classic bull that people say when you dont believe in what a theory tells you, oh im catholic but this and that i reject most of bible because man sad this…please, you know what this wont go anywhere, i believe in something and you dont and leave it at that.

so what do you think then, big bang created by god big bang created by nothing (so no god thus you reject god) god didnt create us but created cells and bacteria, amino acids??

you defend science but then who create and how in your opinion, where is god in science of evolution? people attack what i saw so what is there opinion of what they think?
Let me make this perfectly clear. Go to your Catechism and look up Article 2, Section III, line 100. That is what I believe.

That citation is the whole basis for this thread, and my long defense of science, which I hope to protect from your scandalous attacks.

Where is God in the science of evolution? Ask the Church! They have no trouble with the theory.

wow, show me any proof the pope or the church supports evolution, show me, give me a link from vatican website, people calim this and that but no proof, they just say the church said it. and no im not potestant…where did that come from, yes I except gravity, but then you reject alot of the bible…you reject all of genesis…because it cant be one or the other,

to insult someone is just showing your biggatry and i would strongly reevaluate your beliefs because i dont reject gravity, i dont reject laws that god created but to insualt someone i start to wonder where you faith really lies in, dont turn away from god reflect on what you are saying.
Here is Pope John Paul defending evolutionary theory:

“In his encyclical Humani Generis (1950), my predecessor Pius XII has already affirmed that there is no conflict between evolution and the doctrine of the faith regarding man and his vocation, provided that we do not lose sight of certain fixed points… Today, more than a half-century after the appearance of that encyclical, some new findings lead us toward the recognition of evolution as more than a hypothesis. In fact it is remarkable that this theory has had progressively greater influence on the spirit of researchers, following a series of discoveries in different scholarly disciplines. The convergence in the results of these independent studies—which was neither planned nor sought—constitutes in itself a significant argument in favor of the theory.”

John Paul II, Message to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences on Evolution

Please note that I have cited this for your further investigation. That should satisfy anyone who has the concerns that you do.

As for your rant, I acknowledge your defensiveness.

the problem is i open to peoples opinions the problem is they are defending science version and god is nota part of science version of creation, we are not talking about hybrid thinking where god has a step, people are saying science is 100% right, and if thats true and you read it, to science there is no god and we are nothing more then chance.

thats the dangers here…i dont mind people saying they believe god had a hand on how we evolved, its when they inbrass since, claim they are catholic, yet reject god had anything to do and inbrace sciences version, no god, in fact no ALL but many sole mission besides being scientists is to disprove god is real.
God IS a part of it. What have all these posts been trying to tell you!

exactly and no doubt or dispute at all except that here as elsewhere individuals misinterpret and are unaware and insist that what they have misinterpreted is what the Church teaches - so see for yourself that the Church presents the work of the Creator symbolically as a succession of six days of divine work - there is no mention of the six days being symbolic - the Church and reason dictate the proper sense is 6 x 24hr days whilst the improper sense can be any period of time - which is what yom can be except as regards the six days of creation - twinc
Please cite an authentic, Vatican-approved Catholic reference stating that the Creation was 6x24 hour periods. No more semantic games, please.

This forum has kept careful track of what you have argued thus far, and when the proof was presented, you shirked it off and tried to evade the questions that followed you. You’re no victim. And you have made a great many people angry not with your opinion but with your stubborn refusal to answer honest questions and respond with reasoned and correct statements about the teachings of the Church.

If you succeed at convincing me with proof that evolution is a fact, I will walk away from religion altogether. If it’s true, then no one need bother.
It’s a theory, albeit a scientific one. When a better theory comes along, with more convincing evidence, out it goes.

The Church does not say this! Not at all! Please cite source material.

It’s an allegory. The Church does no longer stand in conflict with the observed ideas that govern the material world and has stated so innumerable times from the highest office of pope through the bishops in communion with him.

Please don’t mischaracterize the theory of evolution or the Catholic Church’s official teachings on science.
