Something killed a wasp in my house yesterday. I think my cat did it. I found her batting something across the kitchen floor and found it was a half dead wasp. My dog was watching amusingly. Neither show any signs of being stung.
CatholicBoy posted some of the quotes from the Catechism on respecting animals. Note that this comes under the discussion of the Seventh Commandment (“Thou shall not steal”), not the Fifth Commandment (“Thou shall not kill”). You are right that the 5th Commandment is speaking about human life.Hi, The 5th Commandment tells us not to ‘kill’ but it would be best understood as not to murder - and that would be the unjustified taking of another human life.

We respect the lives of animals because they are part of creation and we are called to be good stewards of creation so as not to “steal” those resources from future generations.
