What do you think? Cyber bullying and sexting was not a thing in my childhood and youth. Is Facebook and Twitter a good thing or is it poisoning young minds?
I think the whole thing is just plain dumb and dangeous. I wouldn’t let them and I would warn them that x,y, and z will be punishment if you ever find them on it.What do you think? One of the administrators at our sons’ high school told an assembly of parents that Facebook and MySpace were becoming passé among young people…too many parents and grandparents sticking their noses in there,** so while youth still use it for some purposes, it is about as cool as a family reunion, and not where the real teen-to-teen social interactions take place.** As for texting, the school makes certain that all their students know that deleting a text you sent* does not delete it from anyone else’s phone*! What you send out to cyberspace is potentially there forever, ready to testify against you.
They might not understand unstinting kindness at that age, but they do understand “BUSTED!!”
We just had a topic about the latter, and even the conservative posters said that many kids would need cell phones if they drive alone. Just throwing that out there.Although technology is a wonderful tool I personally do not think anyone under 18 even needs a facebook or twitter page…or a cell phone for that matter.
Fresh air, sunshine, sports, homework, friends and chores are all kids need in life…and of course Our Father in heaven.
My friends use instant messaging, but we’re behind the technology curve. The teenagers who are on the cutting edge (and/or the ones who want to send risqué messages and photos) use snapchat, precisely because all of the messages and pictures are immediately deleted. Although I think you can still take screenshots of them. I wouldn’t know. One of the administrators at our sons’ high school told an assembly of parents that Facebook and MySpace were becoming passé among young people…too many parents and grandparents sticking their noses in there, so while youth still use it for some purposes, it is about as cool as a family reunion, and not where the real teen-to-teen social interactions take place. I didn’t even think about snapchat! I use it to send goofy pictures that would be embarrassing to actually post. lol. Gosh, I never thought that people would use it in a dirty way.My friends use instant messaging, but we’re behind the technology curve. I also don’t know anything about facebook and twitter… It used to be that I was against them on principle, but now they just seem boring.![]()
People will use a lot of things to help them sin. Something that immediately erases evidence is bound to be very “helpful”. But not everyone uses it that way, and I know that there are legitimate reasons that many people use it.I didn’t even think about snapchat! You can take screenshots of it. I have.
True. There is always the latest and greatest thing. You can only do so much for your kids. Teach them the best you can and pray, pray, PRAY. They have free will and if the really want to do something, they will. Especially when they are teens. You can’t keep them locked up. That’s child abuse. lol.People will use a lot of things to help them sin. Something that immediately erases evidence is bound to be very “helpful”. I just think it’s funny that we’re in here worried about sexting on facebook. Nobody in their right mind would do that when snapchat is an option. I think by the time parents can get worried about one thing, it’s usually time for them to start worrying about the next thing as far as teenagers go.![]()

Nah…:coffeeread:
There are no books on that list! I don’t think I want to live in your world.
Yikes!!! I forgot books! That’s the main thing. Also visits to libraries and museums.

His page IS a family reunion! (But hey–nothing wrong with that. It is a lot more than most 18 year olds used to tell their grandmothers!!)
I hadn’t thought of it that way. But that is the way it is. My son, 18, has his mom, his Aunt, at one point his grandfather, and his cousins as “friends.”
Yes, his page is about as exciting as a family reunion.
