Is fasting and/or abstinence obligated on Wednesday outside of Lent? Like today?

I’m a bit confused, this says fasting and abstinence is required on all Ember Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. But it says it’s only for members of the Society of St. Pius X. How would I know if I’m a member?

Okay, I just called the Rectory of my parish and my priest answered the phone, and said it’s not obligated. So I’m all good. Thank you so much for the reply!

Given your posting history, it seems that you struggle with scrupulosity. You should not ask these questions here. Seek help offline.

You are in my prayers.

Just another question, is a Traditional Latin Mass a literal mass in Latin? Is it any different from a regular mass other than the language? Sorry if it may sound rhetorical I’m curious.

By the way, thank you for the resource, and God bless you.

The Traditional Latin Mass is the mass as it was celebrated prior to Vatican II. After Vatican II you had the emergence of the Novus Ordo, which is the mass you’re probably familiar.

Latin is the primary language of the liturgy in a TLM, though I believe the readings are still in English.

it’s not obligatory on Wednesdays in or out of Lent.

Well, first, you would have to be a priest. Because the SSPX is a society of priests. Secondly, you’d have to actually join the society.

So…

No, you are not a member of the SSPX. You would know because you would be attending a Traditional Latin Mass regularly in their chapel and be part of their community, not the local parish in your diocese.
Actually, that would not make someone a member of SSPX.

The society is a society of priests. One would have to be a priest to actually be a member of the SSPX.

Are there any masses where it’s all said in Latin?

Well that clears it up! Thanks, God Bless you.

The SSPX is not following the practice of the Catholic Church on this. The SSPX is a traditionalist group that to some degree broke away from the Church decades ago.

The Catholic Church currently does not observe Ember Days and any Ember Wednesday fasting is a private devotion.

The SSPX does not have the authority to bind the faithful to fasting or abstinence. Consult the United State Catholic Conference of Bishops or the Canadian Catholic Conference of Bishops if you’re Canada-side for obligations to fast or practice abstinence.

Peace.

I went to look at the list. Other than Good Friday & Ash Wednesday, the only one I can remember being a day of fast and abstinence before 1966 was the Vigil of Christmas. We used to break that fast and abstinence with meat pie at the “Réveillon” after Midnight Mass. Granted I was too young to be bound by either but it was always salt cod for supper that day.
