Fr. DiOrio is the ā€˜real deal’.

I was diagnosed with a condition called JRA (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) when I was 3 years of age. Debiliating pain was part of my life growing up. My mother brought me to see him at a healing service in Worcester, MA back in the early 80s as she was willing to try anything to stop my constant pain. I went to his services three times over about a 1 year period. Although my folk were active Catholics in their younger days, they stopped practicing in their late 20s and, as I was born about 20 year after that, I was never raised with any religious training.

Initially, I hated going to the service and didn’t understand what was going on around me. If anything, I thought Fr. DiOrio was unholy at the time and was scared of him as I saw many unexplainable things happening around me. I neither understood Catholism or the strange occurences happening in the church. The second time I went to one of his services, he pointed to me from the alter (I was sitting about 25 rows back) and said there is a boy with arthritis over here and asked that I come up to the stage. The ushers came to escort me up to see him. I was not happy about it to say the least and my mother literally pushed me out of the pew to get me to go up. Father prayed over me for about 10 minutes, laid hands on me, and spoke in tougues from time to time. I nearly fell over three times and felt waves of heat emanate from his hand on my forehead down to my feet each time he touched me. I resisted falling with great difficulty. He then told me to run up and down the aisle at the bottom of the alter afterwards. I did run. I felt zero pain and hadn’t run in about 7 years to that date. The best way I can describe it was that it felt like I was running on clouds. The pain did return later that night.

On a later occassion, my parents and I went to a service a third time. He didn’t call on me this time but I felt more unusual sensations than I did prior. When I walked through the threshold of the church door, I immediately felt an overwhelming ā€˜presence’ in the building. Hard to explain but ā€˜something’ was in the building. Later in the service, I felt a sensation of rain on my skin. My father told me after that he, too, felt rain on his arm even though none could be seen with the naked eye.

Although, I was not healed physically, my experience brought my parents back into the faith (they are still devout to this day) and I was motivated to go thorough the steps of Confirmation and still strongly believe in the Church to this day because of my time with him.

I’d like to see him again (and bring my wife to have her share the experience) one more time before he retires.

I use to live in Charlotte, NC where Father Ralph Diorio had a healing service 30+ years ago. I went with my mother and brother and the large arena where the service was held was crowded with Catholics and Protestants. All three of us had a healing. My mother had a heart arrhythmia. Father prayed for people with all ailments. My mother’s heart improved and what I though was interesting was that she wanted an imporvement, not a cure. My brother had some moderate eye problems and his eyes improved. I had a severe cold at one time and I lost most of my hearing in my right ear and partial hearing in my left ear. When Father prayed for people with problems with hearing (ears), both ears began cracking to the point of pain. For days my ears cracked and with each cracking, my hearing improved. To this day my hearing is normal. I have had ā€œlittle miraclesā€ and many blessings in my life, and I believe Father Ralph is legit.

I am new to this Catholic forum. My Name Is Everett and I am married to a wonderful lady, and have three beautiful children and six grand children. I am semi retired and enjoying life more than ever. When I saw this question on the forum I just had to reply.

Let me start by informing you that Fr Diorio’s ministry of healing started in 1976, three years before I received my remarkable healing at just one of his services. I had been invited to one of his services at the Glenn’s Falls Civic Center in July of 1980. I went to this service very reluctantly but my wife and a Catholic friend of mine insisted that I go because I needed a healing. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis by a very prominent Dr at the Albany Medical Center. I had been out of work for seven years and now I was confined to a wheelchair. My wife and children took care of me every day, putting me to bed and getting up every day to sit in my chair. I had totally given up on my life and I wasn’t the husband or father that I had hoped I would be. I remember that day, on my way to the Civic Center, that I tried to get my wife to turn the car around and go back home, as I did not want to go to this Healing Service. I remember that a fear that I can not quite explain came over me. When we arrived at the center I was still very reluctant to go in side the center. My friend and my wife continued to insist and wheeled me in. Now they would not let them take my wheelchair to the main floor so they requested that I get out of the chair and be seated in a chair. I was very nervous and here I was seated among a sea of people. OH NO! What is this, the service opened with music and special prayers like I had never witnessed in a church before. Now I must point out, that up to and until this day I was only an off and on again practicing Catholic. We had raised our children in the Catholic School system and sent them to church every Sunday. But I was no longer a faithful church goer.

It was my very first time seeing a priest with a healing ministry. I knew about God and Jesus Christ and the blessed Mother of Christ as anyone else brought in the Catholic Church but never witnessed anything like this in a Catholic setting. There were many people being touched and or receiving healing’s. People came from Canada and many other places in the US. Many in wheelchairs and even hospital beds. I witnessed people falling down in the Spirit> I later learned it was called slain in the Spirit. In any case, I was in the middle of something I couldn’t begin to understand. I sat in my chair for seven hours spell bound, whats more is, it was the first time I sat that long without having to get up and go to the bathroom. I had a very weak bladder and I still do not know how I was able to sit so long without re-leaving my bladder. Now, you have to understand this is a man who did not even like going to church and now I was hoping that the service would never end.

The service ended and we started home, stopping for a bite to eat and while in the restaurant I could not stop talking about what we had just been witness to. As a result of this service, I decided to find a church with a ramp so that I could return to church. St Rita’s Church in Cohoes NY just happened to have a ramp on the side of the church. I started attending church regularly and for the first time ever I actually understood the sermons. Things in my life began to change. I had not yet received a physical healing but something was different in me. In the same year at the end of a Sunday service in October a lady approached me and whispered in my ear," God is not finished with you yet". Now this was very odd for I did not know who the lady was other than seeing her in the church on Sunday’s. I had never spoken with her or anyone else at St Rita’s except to give the sign of peace. She continued by asking me if I would like to go to a healing service? I answered by saying no thank you I have already been to a healing service. She then told me that she had two tickets for Fr Diorio’s service in Worcester Massachusetts. I could not believe what I was hearing.
Again I said no but she insisted that God had not finished with me yet. I kept asking why did she say this and why now. Well, I accepted the invitation and decided to go on this bus trip with my soon to be son in law and a bus filled with Cohoes residents.

It was October 2, 1980 and was I loading on a bus for Worcester Mass to go to St John’s Cathedral. This was to be one of Fr Diorio’s last services as the church could no longer hold the crowd’s and was being forced to move to a larger venue. There are many things that happened on that unforgettable day when I received a remarkable healing from Multiple Sclerosis. This was a physical healing but the greater healing was the one in my Spirit. I have never been the same since that Glorious day. I have not and will never stop praising God for the gift that He has blessed Fr Diorio with. Father often says, that we must take our eyes off the one with the gift and keep our eyes on the giver of the gift. Since this amazing event many other wonderful things have happened to me. Fr Diorio included my story in his book " A Miracle To Proclaim ". It has been thirty three years this coming October 2nd. I have given my life to our Lord Jesus and I have given witness to thousands. I know with all my heart that Fr Diorio is Ligit!! I give all the praise to God for the many blessings he has blessed me with. I am so thankful that I went to both services. There is much more to my story and I have been trying to finish a book for some time now. I hope this helps answer your question. I know longer live by site. Remember that Jesus told Tomas " YOU BELIEVE BECAUSE YOU SEE BUT I TELL YOU BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN WHAT THEY DO NOT SEE. GOD IS SPIRIT AND WE WHO WORSHIP HIM MUST WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH. AND THE TRUTH IS THAT THIS PRIEST HAS THE GIFT…GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR GRANDMOTHER.

My friends son is allergic to just about everything food wise with extreme reactions involved…he has been on a feeding tube since an infant… he saw Father and Father asked him… If there was one food to eat what would it be for you?
He replied Shrimp… This kid could can now eat shrimp… His ONLY protien. Now you tell me, is Father real???

Be filled by the Spirit, Be filled with Love xxoo

YES. HE IS LEGIT. No one is a bigger skeptic when it comes to things like this than I am. Or should I say, WAS.

Back in the 80’s my aunt, my favorite aunt, then in her early 40’s was diagnosed at Memorial Sloan Kettering with cervical cancer. Her medical records state this very clearly. She was scheduled for surgery and terribly frightened. We had heard previously of Father Diorio and decided to make the trip to Worcester, Mass to see if he could help.

The auditorium was mobbed. Incredibly so and when he called people to come up to be healed I grabbed my aunts hand and literally dragged her through the throngs of people all the way to the front. I was determined to make sure she was touched by Father Diorio. When we got to the front row, he came by and went to touch her. I blurted out that she ā€œhas cancer Fatherā€. He nodded to me and placed a finger on the side of her neck and prayed. Almost instantly she fell backward and was caught and placed on the floor. I watched as she lay there unmoving for 33 minutes exactly. I timed it. When she ā€œawokeā€ she told me she felt like someone was inside her trying to ā€œpunch their way outā€. That’s how she described it. We are not quacks or religious nuts. We were just two people trying to maybe find a cure, hope, for my aunt to be rid of her cancer. We then went home and everything seemed exactly the same.

A week before she was scheduled for surgery she had an appointment to go back for further testing (i.e., to make sure she was fit for the surgery). After testing the doctor at Memorial Sloan called her and my uncle (her husband) into his office. The first words out of his mouth was, ā€œI don’t understand this, but its a bit of a miracle. The cancer is gone.ā€

To this day, I will NEVER EVER forget the elation we felt when we heard this news. It was gone! And, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that it was through the healing hands of Father Diorio and our dear Lord Jesus Christ that she was healed. No doubt whatsoever. My aunt just turned 70 years old this past May and the ā€œcancerā€ (nor any other major illness) has ever appeared again. It’s a miracle and blessing from the Lord God himself working through Father Diorio. So, in answer to your question, NO he is not a fake. He is 100% legit.

I also must say, a few years later I had a terrible addiction to drugs. I got hooked trying to escape an abusive childhood rape that I could not seem to get over even after psychological help. I felt lost and had no hope. I knew I could not continue on this addictive path as I was sure to end up dead. I went to see Father Diorio and asked him to heal me. He touched me on my head, I felt a power go through me that I never expected, I felt dizzy but I did not fall down. Later, I went home and prepared myself for the agony of withdrawal which I knew was coming. It NEVER came. It was gone. I never suffered one second of withdrawal. Not only did I not feel any symptoms of withdrawal, but I had no desire to ā€œget highā€ again. God bless Father Diorio. God bless his healing hands and I hope our Lord will continue to work through him to heal others.

All I can tell you from my past experiences is BELIEVE! I know I do! God bless you and yours.

smatson811, welcome to CAF and thank you for your very sincere testimony.

I totally agree with you that God’s healing power could flow through his servant who is only a channel for the grace. Though I don’t know Father Diorio, I know such healing could be very real. I have a friend has healing gift. This friend is just a laity, but she has received the gift of healing from God. Once we stayed in the same hotel room during a travel, and she woke me up in the middle of night to pray for the healing of my back pain. I felt a ā€œhot streamā€ flow through my back when she prayed and my tears could not stop flowing down. The tears were from the Holy Spirit, not from any of my own emotion. I knew that because I was very sleepy at the moment and did not feel any ā€œemotionā€ on my own. Though the back pain was not completely healed at the time, it was reduced during our travel.

This friend used to do healing prayers for people in her church circle. One of our mutual friend’s mother had cancer, she was prayed over and the cancer was gone, proved by medical doctors later.

I am telling you this to make the point that God does give people the gift of healing. There is nothing to fuss about. God not only grant such healing gift to priests, but also to laities.

We just have to keep in mind the healing comes from God Himself, not from the channel he uses.

I totally agree with you. The power of healing does come from our God. He just uses certain people as vessels.

God bless you and yours. Have a good day.

I recently heard about a priest who claims to have the gift of healing. His name is Father Ralph Diorio. He has apparently been practicing a healing ministry for a number of years now and is supposed to have approval for all of this from the Church. However, the only information I can find on him is on his own website and also a thread on CAF from several years ago (which, while interesting, didn’t contain much information).

I was wondering if anyone here has ever met/been healed by Father Diorio or knows anything about him? Is he legitimate, or is he a fraud?

I consider myself someone with strong faith and I do not doubt God’s ability to heal people through his servants, but I also have a natural skepticism that makes me reluctant to believe anyone’s claims to miracles, etc. unless I can see some decent evidence.

I wouldn’t much concern myself with asking about this priest, but my grandmother has COPD and her doctors only give her 5 years to live at the most. Right now she’s considering being put on a list to have a risky double lung transplant in the hopes that perhaps her health may be improved and life extended. I worry about the risk of complications for her though.

I know most people who have had healing abilities in the past can’t heal every person they come into contact with for various reasons, so I’m not looking for a personal guarantee that anyone who sees this priest will walk away feeling like a million bucks. But if this man can even help improve her health a little bit then it would be worth driving my grandma the 6 to 8 hours to see this priest.

I would greatly appreciate any information, positive or negative, you may be able to give me regarding Father Diorio. Thanks.
I have told it to a few individuals over the years, people who I felt it might affect or help in some way, people who knew me well enough to know that I am a grounded, normal clear thinking person.
I felt if they knew me, then the source of my story was sound and then they might actually benefit by it, especially since it was my own experience and not a story I had heard from someone else.

In 1986 my younger brother was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer. He was around 30 years old. He had very aggressive malignant grapefruit size tumors in his lungs and abdomen. T

He called me in despair. So I called his oncologist to find out what was going on…I will never forget that moment on the phone, and what he said to me, ā€œForget about your brother, get on with your life, he is going to be dead in a few monthsā€. I decided to try and get another opinion. Someone referred me to Indiana University Hospital where much study was being done on testicular cancer. I called and they told me the top doctor in the world for testicular cancer was on rounds that month (He is in fact the same doctor who cured Lance Armstrong) Four days later we were on a plane from New York to Indiana University Hospital.

My father in-law had recently mailed me a book about Father Ralph DiOrio a Catholic healing preist. I read it on the airplane. The people sounded genuine to me and honest in their accounts of what had happened.
I did not have a strong background in religion and definitely did not understand the concept of true faith. I learned a little from Sunday school growing up, but that was the extent of my connection.

When we arrived we were met by the doctor and his team. After evaluating my brother, the he said he had less than a 10% chance of surviving. They began treatment
and 12 hours later he was in intensive care intubated, barely conscious, bleeding massively inside his lungs.
The doctors said he was dying and would not even survive 24 hours.
My first thought was about the book I read on the airplane. I found a phone number in it and decided not to call my mother but instead called Father DiOrio. A woman answered t and said he was not available. In tears I relayed the urgency and I pleaded with her to get in touch with Father DiOrio. She repeated it was impossible.
She instead offered to pray with me. Feeling hopeless and helpless, I agreed. Over the phone, I repeated her words.
At some point while we were praying Something came over me. It was not heat, not a vision, but more like an inner instant knowledge and assuredness.
I knew as well as I knew my own name my brother was going to be all right.
I saw the Virgin Mary not in a vision but more like in my minds eye. I knew Jesus is here with us and loves us as we love our own children. I knew that the world was put her for us as a gift and just as we want our own children to enjoy the gifts with them we were meant to enjoy our world. All of this came to me in an instant.

For the next few hours my brother remained on the ventilator in critical condition.
As evening approached the bleeding in his lungs stopped, by morning he was removed from intensive care to a regular room.
By day 4 the doctor came to us holding some X-ray sheets.
He very excitedly pointed out that the tumors on one sheet were significantly smaller that those on the other. He said ā€œ Sometimes in a virgin patient (virgin patient is someone who has never received any chemo ) we occasionally can see a small shrinkage in tumors over several months.ā€
ā€œThese tumors are shrinking massively before our eyes. ā€œ He could not explain the phenomenon.
My brother was not a virgin patient.
The tumors continued to shrink every day.
A few weeks later the doctor said:
When my brother arrived 3.5 weeks ago, his lungs were 90% cancer and 10% lung. As of this morning’s X-ray he is 90% lung and 10% cancer. "I think this is some kind of Miracle and we actually might cure him, and I never tell any patient that. ā€œ

If anyone wants to know about the other things that have happened over the past 25 years through Father DiOrio you can contact me at my e-mail, makingstrideswalk@gmail.com.

Fr. DiOrio is definitely ā€œlegitā€.I attended his services for years and was in his choir for a time. He is a priest in good standing with the Diocese of Worcester, MA. He received the charism of healing while attending a healing service conducted by Fr. Ed McDonough (now deceased) a Redemptorist in the Archdiocese of Boston.
Fr. Diorio still conducts healing services at St. Anne’s Shrine in Fiskdale (Sturbridge), MA. If you need further verification of his legitimacy, you can always call the Diocese of Worcester,
(508) 791-7171, and ask for the Bishop’s office or the Clergy’s office.
God bless,
Mary E. Delabruere

I was also was responding to the question is Father Ralph Dioro legit…somehow the threads merged as one on the site…I have seen the healings, and experienced them myself…I told the story of my brother as just my first example.

Earlier today, the lady, Rose, who cleans my house once per month asked if I had ever heard of Fr. Diorio. I admitted that I hadn’t, and she told me about a ā€œbad backā€ malady that she had endured as a young woman. She said that when this back ā€œacted up,ā€ she would be filled with excruciating pain for weeks at a time. But Fr. Diorio had visited her church in Cleveland, OH, and she attended a healing Mass. At one point, Fr. Diorio asked if any present sufferee from back pain, and she stood up. Fr. Diorio didn’t claim to heal, but said that individuals who experienced chronic back pain should stand. Rose said that she stood up – though bent over by her pain – and apparently Fr. Diorio indicated those who would be cured would know it almost immdediately. Rose said that she felt as if someone had pushed from behind. She has not endured back pain since – she demonstrated her cure for me by bending over nearly able to touch the floor with her head. She said that she could clean floors all day in that posture. I don’t know if this is any sort of miracle, but Rose is a pragmatic woman and described her cure in practical terms.

Hi yes Father Diorio is legit. I know this first hand as we brought my nephew to see him back in 1986. When my nephew went he was wearing a hearing aid in each ear. Father called my nephew out by his name. Trust me this was not prearranged. He had my nephew take his hearing aids out and then the spirit went through him. When he awoke Father called out to him again and to our amazement he could hear Everything. Please believe as we do. My sister took him to a hearing dr. that he had never seen and he told her there was nothing wrong with my nephews hearing. If you ever get the chance to see Father please please go. It is such an amazing thing to see

RUDE NASTY PRIEST…I don’t know what to make of this DiOrio. But now he’s asking $65.00 per head to go to a healing service. At first I thought it was a joke or misprint but its true. In the past I went to a couple of his services and I never forgot how rude his staff treated me .They made me feel like you didn’t belong there. When I went up to him for a blessing he gave me a creepy look then turn and headed in another direction. I saw him do this to others as well… He did this to me on another occasion and I never went back… I been treated better by enemies… also his services are very long 3 hours so I don’t know how a disabled person in pain can drive to a service then be forced to sit for hours- through the whole service. He blesses very few people, he walks around splashing water on people. Mostly the women. he seems to avoid men…

Having met Fr Diorio, and knowing of his healing ministry, I doubt the accuracy of your post.

My post was simply my own experience…you of course have a choice, doubt it or believe it.
I felt compelled to share it. As far as the cost to attend the services, I understood that was to cover the cost of the venue, insurance and other expenses associated with a group attendance…I also too was amazed at the stamina of an 83 year old man being able to stand on his feet for so many hours. I am much younger and found it difficult. I wish you the best and sincerely hope your bitter feelings do not obstruct the flow of your prayers. Also for the record the first miracle I experienced through Father DiOrio was not during one of his services. I was in Indiana in a phone booth and spoke and prayed only with one of the ladies who answered the phone. I prayed for my younger brother who was dying and not expected to make it through the next day. Within hours of my prayer call his tumors began to shrink. You can read my post for the entire story.

Though you posted this 3 yrs ago, I thought I’d reply. I don’t know if your mother still survives. I know Fr. DiOrio, & yes, he’s legit. I met him in the late 80s after a friend gave me a ticket to a healing service in Boise. Though it was far, I took my mother, who’d been trying to recover from my father’s murder. I went thinking I was going for her & my younger brother, as well as other people I knew. I’d heard a lot about Fr. DiOrio, & hoped it would be a productive. I went w/forgiveness in my heart for the people who murdered my dad – forgiveness is an important part of healing – &, though I had a number of medical issues, myself, didn’t expect or hope for anything for myself. Fr. DiOrio made his way around the auditorium, blessing people as he was departing, away from me. Suddenly he turned, and walked way over to me & touched me very lightly just below the throat. I saw a bright white flash of light, & went down like a ton of bricks onto the cement floor, I heard my head crack, but felt no pain & was uninjured. I could hear what was going on around me, but was in a near state of euphoria & really didn’t care. I wasn’t ā€œoutā€ for long, &, at first, I couldn’t open my eyes. As the ā€œhighā€ of the Holy Spirit wore off,my eyelids fluttered & opened. I knew God had touched me through this humble priest. That was merely the beginning of many changes & events. Two years later, a friend asked me to work on the committee organizing a visit to Salt Lake City. Since I’d been working in law enforcement. & had booking and promotions experience, I was asked to help w/security & promotions @ the U of U Events Center. Many people were healed, though not all. Fr DoOrio consistently repeated, it was not up to him, it was up to God,he was only the instrument. Many who did not receive a physical healing, received spiritual. emotional, &/or mental healings. Still others received no healing at all. Some left angry at Fr. DiOrio &/or at God. Fr. DiOrio began w/explanations that healing was NOT his to give, he was merely the instrument. Only God would know the reasons healing was not given. More importantly, he said FORGIVENESS, was an important part of receiving healing. He said some might not immediately realize receipt of a healing, some might see healing ā€œgrowā€ over subsequent days, weeks, months, years. Most legitimate healers will say the same. Over the subsequent years, I learned this to be true. I also learned that most people require spiritual & emotional healing before physical healing occurs. Many times spiritual & emotional healing are more important. Dramatic, remarkable & total healings are rare, especially when there is much spiritual & emotional healing needed . The next year, Fr. DiOrio came to my parish. Again, I worked the event & was fortunate to bring my mom to private healing services held for volunteers. He also conducted Holy Week seminars, & many were healed. Moreover, mom, who’d been devastated by my father’s murder, received healing & visions during the time she ā€œrested in the Spirit.ā€ During 1 vision she heard God tell her he had given her the gift of healing, &, in the next couple of years, the gift began to manifest itself. Over the years since (circa 1990-2010) mom traveled the world, praying over people. She was invited to Calcutta. Mother Teresa was, at first, very skeptical, but a priest – a fairly well-known and well-regarded theologian – brought mom, so Mother Teresa allowed her to pray over the sisters, as many were sick. One nun suffered from late-stage breast cancer & received a total instant healing. She went to the doctor, & was told no trace of Cancer left. Mother Teresa became an advocate & supporter of mom’s ministry, & invited her to return 3 more times. Unfortunately, mom was unable to return before Mother Teresa passed away. Since the nuns were so grateful for mom’s intercessions for healing, they invited her to attend Mother Teresa’s beatification ceremony in Rome. I could tell you more, but it would take a long time. What I say to his critics: Fr. DiOrio entered the seminary when he was very young. I believe around 14. He is very unsophisticated, & sometimes can seem brusque & childish. But, his gift is very real. Moreover, one must remember he is merely a human being, subject to weaknesses & flaws. I acknowledge he has human frailties. I’ve seen him behave in less than holy ways. Who of us hasn’t? I’ve yet to meet a perfect human being, have you? One should not mistake the gift for the man. As for those who ā€œgot a bad feelingā€ when they experienced a healing service & speaking in tongues – those uninitiated in the Charismatic, these things may seem strange, weird, odd, even creepy; but, it is totally subjective & it’s unfortunate someone would miss out on experiencing God &/or healing because it was outside their comfort zones. Fear, the devil, personal biases can all have a hand in deterring people from holy or miraculous experiences. I’ve witnessed & experienced ā€œyou know whoā€ trying to keep me & others from holiness, from doing things that move me closer to God. The world, life, seem to constantly work to keep us from moving toward God – that’s why some religious orders are cloistered, to remove temptation, to remove all the ā€œnoiseā€ & distractions from life & the world. ā€œYou know whoā€ HATES holiness, HATES when people do anything that moves them closer to God, or onto the path, he’ll do ANYTHING to prevent it. He is the ā€œGreat Deceiverā€. There are many other healers out there who God has given to help & love us, particularly when there’s so much sin & evil. Jesus said his prophets will be rejected in their homes & hometowns & they would suffer. Many in my mother’s parish have been critical & skeptical of her, but it didn’t stop her. If your mother is still alive, or if you are in need of any healing, you can contact me. Mom is quite aged & infirm now, but, she still prays over people on the phone or in her home (in-person is better).

I can tell you from personal experience that I was blessed to be a recipient of Father Diorio’s help. I spent nine years (starting from 18 months of age) being treated for acute urinary tract infections. My problems were so bad that I had 2 surgeries, and nearly bled to death in my own bed Christmas night 1973. I was only 3 years old, and it is one of my first memories. The bleeding was caused by an allergy to the only medicine that seemed to even begin to control the infection, and for two weeks the doctors told my parents that they thought I had leukemia. I have one kidney that was so damaged from the years of sickness that it is nearly folded in half. And then my aunt took me to see Father Diorio.

I was never told who or what he was, all I was told was to ask God to help me get better. I I just thought that we were going to see the Christmas lights at LaSallette shrine in Enfield, NH, but we were going to go to mass first. In the end, I disobeyed my mother’s instruction. There was a baby boy there, not even two years old, and he was dying of cancer. After I heard that, I told God that this little boy needed his help much more than I did, and I spent all of mass asking God to help him.

My cousin is visibly handicapped, and very afraid of strangers. After seeing many people go forward to be blessed, and seeing another person pass out (scary to any little girl), Father Diorio saw my cousin, walked over to her, smiled at her and made the sign of the cross on her forehead and walked away. She was holding my hand when he did that. The instant that he touched her, I felt like a white-hot spear went through my heart, and the heat spread upwards and engulfed my head, and once that happened, I had to go to the bathroom…NOW!!! My aun’t mother took me to the lady’s room and she told my mom afterward that she thought I was never going to stop. As the fluid left me, the heat drained away from my head. We went back to mass and continued on our afternoon as planned.

When we got back home, I had to take my medicine. (If I missed a dose, I would spike a very high fever very quickly.) I went in the other room and played with my brothers and my aunt told my mother about the strange things that happened at LaSallette.

The next morning, when my mother sent me to get my medicine, I looked at her and told her that I never ever had to take that ā€œyucky medicine ever againā€. Long story short, I never took the medicine again. I was being treated at Dartmouth hospital every two weeks, mom and I agreed to keep our secret from the doctor about what happened until after we heard what he had to say. After a year of each set of tests getting increasingly better, and not being on any type of medication when the doctor thought I was taking it faithfully, he declared that I was completely better and that he didn’t need to see me again. Then my mother sat up and told him that I hadn’t been on medication for a long time. She told him the whole story of my encounter with Father Diorio and when she was finished, he made her repeat the story, and he wrote it into my medical records.

When I saw him. Father Diorio said that he couldn’t guarantee that he could help you, and that if he was able to that it may or may not be a permanent blessing. He also reminded the entire congregation that it wasn’t HIM providing help for people, it was God the Father using him as his instrument.

That first meeting with Father Diorio was over 30 years ago. Today, I am 43 years old, and although my kidneys carry the physical scars from my illness, I am so thankful to say that I have never had another problem with those infections again.
