Is fishing wrong?

My two Rottweilers see nothing wrong at all with fishing. 😉

They think it is wrong that only cats are perceived to love to eat fish. (Of course, they think pretty much anything associated with or about cats is stupid anyway.) Dogs love fish, too. And mine like to ride along in the boat to get fresh fish. They get very excited when one gets hooked!

I used to love going fishing when I was younger, but stopped when I started to think that what I was doing was cruel and morally wrong, causing fish needless pain.

However, these last few years I have really missed fishing, the chance to get away from it all, sitting in beautiful countryside. To be honest, it’s not the cathing the fish I miss, it’s the act of fishing I miss. There’s something quite spiritual about it.

So, is fishing cruel? Is it morally wrong? I’m happy that fishing for food certainly isn’t, but what about catch and release?

Your views would be appreciated!
It’s true that man has dominion over the animals and fish.
Some argue however that dominion was not meant to include using them for sport ie shooting the living daylights out of them just for fun!..or driving a large hook into a fishes mouth. Alternative use of animals like horse riding does not inflict pain, terror or death.
I wouldn’t expect the Church to take a view on this subject. I think we will each answer for how we used God’s creation.

PETA is evil and their ideas are poisonous. Stop listening to them and other animal “rights” nuts. If you want to fish, fish. If you eat what you catch or throw them back and do not torture them you are fine. God appointed mankind to be stewards of the Earth, not slaves to the lies of the Luddite leftists environmentalists.

Not that I have a strong opinion, or anything.

It wasn’t intended to be condescending. I like women with soft hearts whether I agree with them or not.
I figured it probably wasn’t intended to be condescending, I just wanted to point out that it seemed that way to me and probably others . . . sorry I didn’t put it a better way!

Their arguments would be weak. God put animals on the earth in an attempt to keep us company, they are ours to use how we need. But obviously that does not give us the right to torture animals, those who would say we could are stupid.

The way you put it (i.e. “shooting the living daylights out of them just for fun!” and “driving a large hook into a fishes mouth”) makes it sound worse than it really is. As someone has already stated, there isn’t any scientific evidence that says fish feel pain. And “shooting the living daylights out of them for fun” is completely off the mark, it seems as though you’ve never gone hunting.

Hello! I would like try say something about that:
  1. we are always sinful, so we cant make us saints quckly, and be perfect for a min, we must care to not be perfectionists!
  2. God made a creatures to be a servants for a people(Genesis 1 - 2 ch.)
I didnt say we can torture and be evil against animals. that is a sin, but always not sin like kill a man. Ok, I want to tell, there is a kind of enjoying in fishing and there is some kind hurting a fish,
but, for example, catching for a meal sure is not a sin if there is not evil mind and sick wish for a torturing, but if somebody has this in soul and mind, it is smallest problem if fish is catched.
I know you are sport fisherman, so what if there is a unbeatable wish for a fishing like opsession? that could be a some kind of sin, but again, problem is in opsession and not biggest problem in catching fish.
so, brother I think you can go fishing, but always take care for moderation! 🙂 dont be in fishing so long to ignore your important duties 🙂 like be in a fishin thursty and hungry, but specially if kids at home, job, so praying, Sunday holy mass are ignored, but for relaxing, for making you happy - Go and be blessed!

Actually… Perhaps “fishing” with no bait would work, if things are exactly as you describe them…? You will be able to avoid worrying about hurting the fish (you won’t catch any) and you will be in the countryside as if you were fishing “for real”. 🙂 And best of all - you won’t need to solve those questions. 🙂
