I am a Filipino, and since I was a kid I always see Filipino catholics offer foods to some of the religious statues they have at home, especially the Sto. Nino one (the toddler Jesus Christ). it never crosses my mind to even ask why they do it, since I was just a kid and would not be able to understand as to why they do such thing. Lately, I found out that “pagans” also do it to their false gods (1 Corinthians 8). I know, Buddhism does. And I still see Filipino Catholics do it up to this date.
What can you say about that? Does the Catholic Church consider that as an act of “idolatery?” Is it okay to “offer foods to the religious statues?” Is their any other catholics who does that in some other countries?
Thank You!
