Is gambling on papal election permissible?

Given the Pontiff’s imminent retirement, is it morally permissible for Catholics to participate in betting on his successor?
 
Dear friend,

I notice in your personal information that you are a Catholic. It would be more appropriate for you to pray for the new pope, than to gamble over who he will be. To do such would not necessarily be a sin, but we live in very troubled times. I would hope that you would be moved more to sacrifice rather than pleasure regarding this.
