Is getting this material thing a sin?

I recently wanted to get a box to hold some of my stuff. Really I don’t need it since I already have a box but some of the things take up some of my space so I wanted a religious box for the religious stuff I have in the other box.
I am asking since I feel I have been getting a lot of things recently.

Why do you think this is a sin? Which of the 10 commandments does it break?

Perhaps you need some spiritual direction from your priest if you often think ordinary things are sins.

Someone once told me that I was scrupulous and I think I am. It makes me feel better when I ask people if it is a sin just to make sure.

If you are scrupulous you need to be under regular spiritual director with one priest. He can help you with your scrupulosity. It is a false sense of “feeling better” when you let your scruplosity hold you hostage and have to second guess everything.

You’ve probably heard the phrase “cleanliness is next to Godliness”. Well, I’d put ‘neatness’ right up there as well.

If you want to tidy your possessions up by using a box to categorise and store them in, then by all means do so. Owning and using such a box would be morally neutral, so unless you obtained said box in some sort of immoral way, there isn’t even a hint of sin anywhere near the subject.

Go tidy your stuff with peace of mind

I agree with everyone else, and I think it’s lovely to have an intentional container to hold your religious articles. I have a basket that I keep to hold all of my sacramentals and prayer booklets, holy cards, etc. It helps me because that container only contains those things and therefore isn’t also something for secular use.

Is the box adorned with gold and jewels and further marked with slanderous statements about the Church? If not and it is just a box, then don’t worry about it. We aren’t all called to be Mother Teresa who only owned a few items one of which was a wooden spoon. (But boy, if you saw that spoon!)
