God isn’t fair. The Gospel reading last Sunday was all about this. Sometimes He gives more gifts to some than to others (no one is owed mercy or owed a gift).
That being said, Scripture says He desires all men to be saved, and therefore, even to those where the full blessings of the Gospel have not been spread, even in ways known to only Himself, He offers them at least the minimal grace to have an opportunity to be saved.
Whoaaa…God is NOT unfair…Last Sunday’s gospel WAS NOT about unfairness.
It was about equality in justice for those who turn to the Lord.
Eternal life is the exact same length of time for everyone, Hence, the last will be first and the first will be last.
Augustine has a pretty interesting take on that gospel passage…He says, Adam is represented by those hired at 6am; Noah at 9am, the Patriarchs at noon, the Prophets at 3 pm, and the Christian disciples of Christ at 5pm…
Again, the passage is not about unfairness, but of generosity. Those viewing it as unfair, are validating what Ezekiel tells us God said (Ez 18:25-28), that man’s way is unfair, and the Lord’s way is perfect justice.
The walkaway lesson of the Gospel of the vineyard laborers is its never too late to convert, but don’t put it off since we never know when our end, or the end of the age comes…some wise man once said, “He who is waiting for the 11th hour to turn from sin and to the Lord, usually dies at 10:45!”
Peace and all Good!
