Sometimes OCD can lead you down sinful paths. Is God generous in these situations? Especially when you ask him for help and forgiveness?

Perhaps this can help

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

1859 Mortal sin requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act, of its opposition to God’s law. It also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choice. Feigned ignorance and hardness of heart do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin.

1860 Unintentional ignorance can diminish or even remove the imputability of a grave offense. But no one is deemed to be ignorant of the principles of the moral law, which are written in the conscience of every man. The promptings of feelings and passions can also diminish the voluntary and free character of the offense, as can external pressures or pathological disorders. Sin committed through malice, by deliberate choice of evil, is the gravest.

[1855](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/1855.htm’)😉 Mortal sin destroys charity in the heart of man by a grave violation of God’s law; it turns man away from God, who is his ultimate end and his beatitude, by preferring an inferior good to him. Venial sin allows charity to subsist, even though it offends and wounds it.

It is also true that other conditions, like intense unhappiness, substance abuse, others’ bad actions can be seen as excuse perhaps, along with OCD. We must be really honest about what is going on inside us and what we may be regarding as excuse for our sins.

im in the same boat right now, i know its tough. and i dont think the correct work wouldnt be generous, but rather…loving, more aptly though forgiving

but to answer your question directly…

yes, he is

you are responsible to some degree for your actions, BUT not to a large extent. also many of the actions you are worrying about may not even be sins

God knows your pain, its a phrase tossed around a lot and has become very cliche sadly, but he does, he knows you personally, and he knows that in your heart what you want is to be rid of the OCD and to follow Him

HE IS LOVE!!! and think of it like this: if you act trying to please a loving person, but because of outside forces you screw up a little along the way because you can’t think clearly, what would the loving person do? would he yell at you for screwing up and punish you, despite the fact you weren’t in your right mind, or would he look past that and embrace the fact that even in the face of the outsider forces, you still looked to please that person.

im sorry the analogy is rather weak, but the point is God loves you and understands that the OCD can greatly hinder your descision making process

pray to Him for peace and guidance, but remember…if you have Religous OCD, odds are in the end all you want is to please God, and even though you might not be able to see that, He does, and He will never, EVER, abandon you. REJOICE IN THE LORD FOR HE IS GOOD!!

God bless, my friend, and i dont know how much this would help but check out this website: mission.liguori.org/newsletters/scrupanon.htm

This part is not in the catechism.

OCD is treatable and compulsive hand-washing till your hands are raw or any other such compulsions are not considered sin. The degree of OCD and your culpability for actions thereof are between you and God and your priest. Cheers.
