Why does God tolerate children being killed through abortion? He can see them being tortured to death by abortionists, yet does nothing to stop it. How can God be good if He can watch a baby get torn apart and do nothing? I’d like some scripture verses.

Free will isn’t much of a response, as God brought judgment against soddom.

Ok, since you asked…

“Blessed be he that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock.” – Psalm 136

“And it came to pass at midnight, the Lord slew every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharao, who sat on his throne, unto the firstborn of the captive woman that was in the prison, and all the firstborn of cattle.” – Exodus 12:29

“Thus saith the Lord of hosts: …] Now therefore go, and smite Amalec, and utterly destroy all that he hath: spare him not, nor covet any thing that is his: but slay both man and woman, child and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ***.” – 1 Samuel 15:2-3

Yes. Psalm 136:1 O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures for ever.

God permits the sin of abortion. True love is tested love and we are tested by the evil of abortion. Who passes the test?

Read the OP text. It is the common question of why does a good God permit evil. God permits evil to achieve a greater good.

You say, “God is good,” but I tell you truly, “God is Good!”

A noun, not just an adjective! He is all good, He is ALL GOOD! He is the fountain of all goodness!

And truth be told, I think the destruction of the person more gruesome than the particularly heinous way in which they we’re murdered.

At least this person is simply the “How could He allow?” instead of the “How could He order!”

Either way, the answers a simple one.

But as for the, “Why isn’t fire descending upon us” one, the answer I was given was because He’s merciful. We’re too slow though, to make much use of the time He’s giving us. We’ve jobs. We’ve lives. We’ve families. There’s too much standing in our way we’ve gotta take care of before we serve, wholeheartedly, the Almighty.

Why does God permit any evil?

It goes right to the beginning of scripture, and to the situation of Adam and Eve being forbidden to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.

Sorry, you don’t make the rules. Free will is exactly the point. God’s commands are exactly the point. Free will gives us the chance to do what is good, what is commanded, etc.

God is totally good, without darkness or sin.

Gen 1:1 to 2:3 shows us that God is the Judge. When He says that such and such is good, it is a judgment of God, not just His opinion.

Eve said that the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and bad was “good” which is her rebellion against God, her assumption that she was god and could make such a decision, etc.

If someone other than god destroyed sodom and ghommora would it have been good? If someone other than god turned Lots wife into a pillar of salt would it have been good? If someone other than god killed all the first born in egypt would it have been good?

God tolerates our evil actions to give us a chance to repent. God could have stopped the hand of Cain when he killed Abel. That was the first murder on earth, but God wants us to truly want good on earth as it is in Heaven. For that we have to be proactive in bringing about good.

We often forget who we are in relation to God. We are His servants. He has given us the task of keeping the earth and ourselves for Him. Does a master do his servants work and then pay him for it? People expect God to do everything for them and still they expect to receive the reward of eternal life. If we are called to live like the angels then we have to do like they do, obey God’s commands and bring about good.

If God had not given us His commands, we would not know what is good or bad, so we who are servants of God, cannot judge God for the wrongs we see. Scripture says, God cannot deceive nor is He deceived. He does not cause anyone to sin.

To say that God should stop evil is like saying why does a baby have to breath on its own once it is out of the womb, the mother knows it will dies without breathing, so she should continue breathing for the child and not sever the umbilical chord. The fact is that the child is quite capable of breathing on its own after birth.

God has given us His Holy Spirit. We have the very presence of God in our souls through our baptism. We have to choose to listen to Him and work towards building good and destroying evil. As the scripture says, God’s ways are not mans ways, so we need to look at this from how we can do God’s will and not try to judge God who is all good and just.

But there are “evils” in this world outside of those created by our free will. Deasiese and Natural Disasters come to mind…

Creation was made for man. When God created it, it was perfect, then man sinned and the beauty and perfectness of creation got destroyed. The Fall of man caused a distortion in God’s creation that’s why we have diseases and natural disasters.

So, what happens when His servants are unable to get rid of evil? Worldly people outnumber God’s people and hold more power.

Yeah but this world is passing away. God did not stop the Jews and Romans from crucifying His Son. So, it’s not like God doesn’t know there is evil. Those who do evil have till the end of time to repent and its up to everyone to pray for each other. We are not beyond good or evil.

This kind of reminds me of Pandora’s box. God had given Adam and Eve only one commandment, and that was to not eat the fruit of a particular tree. As long as they left it alone, all was good. But, like Pandora’s box, they ate of that tree. That disobedience brought about all the evil we see today. This includes sickness and other stuff like that.

As has already been said, we all are capable of great evil. God gives us plenty of time to repent. But there are many who enjoy their behavior, and they insist that they have a “right” to behave however they like. All sin stems from the fact that when God says us to not do something, then who are we to try to argue with that?

I don’t think I’m expaining this right. God is good, and he gave us free will. He also gave his angels free will. Satan decided that he should be God. Apparently he got alot of angels to support him. Needless to say, this caused them to be thrown out of heaven. These fallen angels will try to get us to rebel against God, just as they did. He wants to take away from God as many souls as possible. Not that he cares about them, his only purpose is to oppose God. It’s up to us if we want to say NO to Gods commandments and will, or we can turn our backs on him.

Those who are rebelling do all sorts of things. There is not only abortion, but war as well. Last I read on the internet, Somalia is in chaos. Is that God’s will? No, it is man’s doing. They want nothing todo with a God who wants them to stop their sinful ways.

Pray for God’s mercy for those enamored with worldly things when the end does come. Pray for them all.

I think we should pray for judgment. Too many people are operating under the influence of a reprobate mind and won’t turn back.
