could it not be possible that he has both masculine and feminine traits? after all, since everything comes from God, its logical to conclude that God contains the traits of his creations.
There is no such thing as masculine and feminine traits. The only difference between male and female is the body in gender. And God does not have a pair of breasts or a vagina. God is going to look like one not begotten of women. God does not contain the traits of his creation because his body transcends creation. It is true that our image will be in resemblance to his but his body is glory and holiness, all of which is beyond our own image.

How could you not know God is male? He takes the role of a Father, not a mother, not a hermaphrodite. Father by all definition is male. Jesus is God and he is male. He takes the role of a King and a bridegroom and a priest, he’s not a queen or a bride or a priestess. The evidence is clear of God’s maleness (masculinity) by the very role HE takes. God is not female. God is not a transvestite or a hermaphrodite. God is not androgynous. God is male.
Do you believe masculinity is more Godly then (i.e. better)?

Would you please clarify? God is immaterial and does not have a body.

The Church teaches that God is not male. The Catechism (239) states:

“By calling God ‘Father’, the language of faith indicates two main things: that God is the first origin of everything and transcendent authority; and that he is at the same time goodness and loving care for all his children. God’s parental tenderness can also be expressed by the image of motherhood, which emphasizes God’s immanence, the intimacy between Creator and creature. The language of faith thus draws on the human experience of parents, who are in a way the first representatives of God for man. But this experience also tells us that human parents are fallible and can disfigure the face of fatherhood and motherhood. We ought therefore to recall that God transcends the human distinction between the sexes. He is neither man nor woman: he is God. He also transcends human fatherhood and motherhood, although he is their origin and standard: no one is father as God is Father.”

It seems to me God has manifested Himself with the marks of a masculine male as evidence by the following observations:

When Jesus teaches us to pray He says, “Our FATHER”, Father is a male.

When Mary conceived it was by the Holy Spirit (a conception at least in role from a male partner to a female partner)

Jesus in human nature is a male.

During the exodus it was the sacrifice of a male lamb that foreshadowed the coming of Jesus, a God with both a human and divine nature.

God has manifested Himself with male language and presentation. As such, I vote male.
Good Points! I agree. male

well, there are such things as masculine and feminine traits, in fact, these traits are what make us male and female. otherwise, a women could become a priest if she had a sex change. gender goes beyond our body. it is in our minds. masculine traits are generaly associated with giving, while feminine triats are generally associated with recieving. again this goes beyond sex and the physical body. anyway, God is either asexual or androgynous. maybe male, but theres absolutely no way he is female. so in order of likelihood as follows:
asexual
androgynous
male
female

No. God is beyond such distinctions, as the Church teaches. The CCC (239) states, “We ought therefore to recall that **God transcends the human distinction between the sexes. **He is neither man nor woman: he is God.”

its hard to wrap ones mind around a concept like that lol.

Of course, if you accept these assumptions, its easy to argue (as many do) that masculinity in general and maleness in particular is superior to femininity and being female.
Male and female,God made both, designed to complement each other, equal ,though different.🙂

Jesus is a man.
But God is not defined by his genitalia but by his glory and his greatness which cannot be labeled Male or Female.
But Only God

God exists, but only in the human mind. We create Gods and Godesses in our own image. When we live in societies with strong female leadership roles, there are female Gods. When a patriarchal society becomes less so, interest in female gods or aspects of gods increases. This growing debate within Christianity reaffirms the reality of God as a construction of the human mind, and a reflection of our society. It’s not a suprise that conservatives, favouring a society of the past which had stronger patriarchial values, tend to favour a male-only god, while liberals, looking forward to greater equality, affirm the femaleness of their god. That they do this by simultaneously affirming that god is spirit and had no sex, adds further proof to the idea of god being one of our own construction.

its more like the other way around, since God knew that the middle east was a patriarchal society, he presented himself as “the father”, God spoke to the people in a language they understood. God presented himself and his laws in a way that the people could relate to him. as for the rest of your post, its just non sense, im sorry to be so blunt. but what gives you the idea that conservatives want a male only society? when in the past there have been queens that have ruled the nation by themselves, second, you have a false premise that men and women are “equal”. this is not true, men and women are different, thus they have different roles in society. this is why both conservatives and liberals have a faulty worldview.

and last, spirits are asexual, its their nature, so umm… how is stating that fact an admission that God is a construct?

I meant that to believe that a thing has no sex, and to then address it in sexual-specific terms, and argue about which sex it should be, can in no way be thought to be a reflection on reality, but rather an attempt to reconcile contradictory beliefs: the need for God to be a spirit (since we cannot see him) and the need for him to have a sex (since we do, and it is important to us).

we dont know everything from the get go. we research, then we formulate hypothesis, many times that hypothesis is wrong, so then we formulate another one. for example, 40 years ago neuro scientists believed that brain cells cannot regenerate, but now new research has proven otherwise. so does that mean the brain doesnt exist either?
we address God in sexually specific terms because masculine fits him best, but catholic theologians state that God is niether male nor female. so God being “masculine” was never official dogma.
there is no “need” for God to be a spirit, thats what he is. i can see youre making typical dawkins arguments. empirical evidence cannot really prove anything. so to rely on it alone is foolish. there are many things which we believe in yet cannot observe by empirical methods. a spirit is an immaterial incorporeal being. its not like thats a recent teaching, people always said that God was spirit, people always said that he was incorporeal. Thomas aquinas states this in his summae theologica, and back then science was no where near where it is today, so he could have easily just used that to his advantage, but he didnt. thats why his proofs are still valid and undisputed to this day.

All throughout Scripture God is referred to as a male. We really don’t have anything else to go on.

It is possible tha this terminology was used to help us understand our role or position within our relationship to Him. In Biblical times, the male was the Head and made all the major decisions and was much more valued and respected than the female. Females were to submit to males at all times.

I have no problems observing those and testing them in empirical ways.
really? so then can you p(name removed by moderator)oint the area of the brain responsible for consciousness? and no its not the cortex, this is just associated with conscousness, but neuro-scientists have still not found a direct link. how about sentience? do you know what part of the brain that lies in?
as for numbers, they do not exist in the material world. numbers are generalizations, but scientists have no clue how the brain makes these generalizations and abstractions. numbers are a part of the abstract realm, which is not material. its our spirit that makes generalizations like numbers and time, this is why animals cant comprehend in numbers and time, since they have no spirit.
