several people here have stated that they believe God to be male. I do not believe God is male. I worry that those who believe that God is male believe that maleness is superior to femaleness.
Yes, and I do believe they are clicking male because God presented Himself as male to us (Jesus refers to God as the FATHER). Not because they believe males are superior.

The male relates to the female most properly in the same way God (our Father) relates to creation, or the earth (Mother Nature), how Christ acts toward His Church; as soul to body, bridegroom to bride, husband to wife, father to mother, man to woman, etc. When the Word of the Lord tells us in Scripture that Eve was created second, out of Adam’s rib, God isn’t really somehow supplicating to the supposedly misogynistic sentiments of an unforgivably patriarchal people. On the contrary, He’s actually informing us of a pretty profound Truth that’s rooted in the metaphysical fact behind our common origin in Nature.
Which is that men are superior to women? I don’t think he said that…

Because there are lots of people like that in positions of power:shrug:
Do you think that a lot of people in power thing men are better than women because Jesus was male? I highly doubt that is the reason. Those that are stupid enough to think one sex is better than the other are simply trying to justify themselves. And yes, it happens, and that is disappointing.

This poll is flawed. God the Father is neither man nor woman, as he is spirit, and has no body. Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, is a man, and the Holy Spirit is under the same boat as God the Father. Truly, they are all one being, but three distinct persons. This should be changed to “Is Jesus male, female or neither” so as to be more specific.

Honestly, this poll is not productive and the thread should be closed. What is to be gained by this?

Really? I think there are some very interesting points being brought up. I suspect this thread will help people think a bit more about God. What is God? Who is God? How has He presented Himself to us? I think all these questions are being tapped upon in this thread alone and that’s always productive. 🤷

👍 Some primitive notions have already appeared!

How else would you interpret his statement that masculinity is primary and more God-like?🤷

Besides his posting history suggests that he thinks women are inferior.

I got into a long debate with In Spiration where he kept suggesting that we need to seriously consider the idea that women are intellectually inferior (i.e. stupid) in another thread.

It’s always a good thing to think about who and what God is. 🙂 Primitive notions turn into more sophisticated ones with time.
Hopefully this thread will serve to reduce the number of those who think sexuality of any description can be attributed to the nature of God. It is an important aspect of human relations but it has no divine implications!

Exactly! And this is an important thing to think about. Now, of course, I believe your and my view of this is correct but even if people don’t come to the same conclusion at least they’ve been exposed to our correct ideas. 😉

Hee…

I think this whole topic of whether men are better than women is ridiculous and not worth the time we are spending on it. Sometimes statements don’t dignify a response…WE all need to recognize that we are all created perfectly for the job God had in mind for us, males and females alike.

Actually I think AngryAtheist is pushing to expose a mentality she disagrees with while failing to recognize that society now teaches that women are superior. Sure there are the odd males who still subscribe to the idea that men are somehow better just for being men but on a whole television, movies, books, radio… everything is feeding us with the lie that women are somehow smarter, stronger, stabler, and just plain better then men.

It’s unfortunate that to boost one sex the other sex has been almost completely defamed. 🤷

BUT this discussion and argument are completely off topic. Someone care to start a new thread so we can debate who is superior?

In a traditionally patriarchal society the truth needs to be reiterated as often as necessary - an action to which Jesus was not averse!

The issue of jobs is precisely the one that leads to much conflict…

Actually I am male.
But thanks for playing;)

Male or female, I think it’s pretty obvious our culture puts women above men rather then the other way around.
That depends on the situation. In some ways, women are put above men, but in others they are not. Men still have most of the dominant positions in most industries for instance.

You’re right. However, popular opinion seems to be that men are stupid, sex-craved animals who will rape anything (woman, child, boy, girl) if they are deprived of sex. Popular media seems to do its best to paint men as nothing but idiots while women are the super humans who can do it all while maintaining their dignity, intelligence and sanity.

While there are still visages of discrimination in certain industries, the average male is treated very poorly these days. Or at least that has been my experience. I am NOT a male but that is what I have seen when I look around at my friends, TV shows, movies, etc.

There.
I just pushed through nine pages of posts. Whew!

I have some difficulty with the wording of the question of this thread/post.
“Is God male, female or neither …”

Who are we discussing? God the Father? God the Son ? God the Holy Spirit?
Many folk have said that God doesn’t have a body. Remember: God the Son is the second person of the Holy Trinity.
The amazing thing is that Jesus ascended into heaven, witnessed by the apostles, in his HUMAN body. God the Son is sitting on His throne in heaven with a human male body. Do we really think that his genitalia were removed at the Resurrection? His glorified Body even retained the wounds from his time on the cross.

God has a male body in heaven. Thus I ended up voting ‘male’ when I really wanted to find ‘masculine’.
