So I was preparing for my bible study, and the reading for this Sunday says in Romans “…that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.”

That made me think of the passage from Mark 12:27 and somewhere in Luke that says "He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled.”

Which is it? Could anyone provide proper context?

Thanks

First, this is a great catch thanks for posting it. 👍 Let me take a stab at it. In Mark, Jesus is talking to the Sadducees, who didn’t believe in the resurection. He was pointing out that God told Moses he is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, not was their God. So the soul of the three is still alive. Paul was talking about how Jesus is Lord over everything, that everything we do should be done for God because whether alive or dead we belong to the Lord. Maybe a better parallel would be John 5:27-29
John 5:27 And he has given his Son the right to judge everyone, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Don’t be surprised! The time will come when all of the dead will hear the voice of the Son of Man, 29 and they will come out of their graves. Everyone who has done good things will rise to life, but everyone who has done evil things will rise and be condemned.
So that even the dead can’t escape Jesus authority.
Hope this helps and I look forward to other interpretations.
God Bless.
