Is gossip a sin? What some Catholic sources say

I am providing this information not to speak against anyone, but simply for anyone who would like to know if gossip is wrong.

well, the way I heard this addressed by my priest was “Have you ever heard someone after a gossip session say 'Wow, before we gossiped I thought [person X] was a horrible person but now I know they are wonderful”?

Gossip is a sin because it is, in almost all circumstances, calumny.

Calumny: defamation: a false accusation of an offense or a malicious misrepresentation of someone’s words or actions

And I will admit to not having read your links, so if this is repeated I apologize.

Often it is detraction (also sinful) (see CCC) -telling someone fault etc of someone without objective good reason to someone who does not know…
