Do Catholics believe that Halloween is a “holiday”? I understand the history of Halloween but can we label it a “holiday”?
 
Sure. The word “Halloween” is a contraction for “All Hallows Eve” or, in more modern language, “The Evening of All that is Holy.” It is the vigil for All Hallows Day, which is better known today as All Saints Day (November 1).
