My ex husband is a professor of systematic theology at a seminary and used to be (in my opinion) a good catholic. He is now a total hypocrite in the way he treats his children. There is no love or respect for them but he demands it from them. He has a girlfriend that he has basically chosen over the children. As a theologian he knows his stuff but what do you tell a person like this to make them “see the light”?

When a man does this Mary, he’s prolly not gonna listen to anything.

Hi, Mary,

I am sorry for the situation you are in, and will pray for you and your family.

Guy (BamaRider) is right.

Accusing your husband of hypocrisy either to his face or to the children will not help. Reach for whatever charity you can muster. Pray for him, and ask your children to pray for him, too. I know it’s hard, but try not to play the martyr.

Try to help the children see that, even though Daddy did a wrong thing, they can still love him and pray for him.

Try to spend some time with the Blessed Sacrament, too. I find that time spent in Adoration helps me out in many ways, including settling me down and helping me see clearly about troubling issues.

In sympathy,

Ruthie

Not so much a hypocrite…rather a lost sheep. If he knows Truth, there’s hope. I pray that he sees the light before he permanently ruins a relationship with his kids. Many times, the heat of the moment…the desire to find that greener grass, takes precedence over doing what is right and true. What most …maybe all people…find out is that the grass is never greener. I hope he chooses to do the right thing, soon. Your children are in my prayers too.😦

Of course he is a hypocrite. I wonder what the seminary he works at would think of his ability to teach Catholic theology when it seems he is unwilling to even try to obey the most basic rules of being Catholic…

The part about him demanding love and respect from his children is truly sickening. He can do anything he likes… destroy their home, betray and abandon their mother, subdivide their income, and impose an interloper in the family based on his sexual whims… yet he expects that they should love and RESPECT him? Respect is earned, and he ain’t doin’ that! And love is inspired by people caring about us and having our best interests at heart… and he ain’t doin’ that either!

To answer, yes he is, and that is sad.

Prayer and hope is good, hope that the best will come. I enjoyed Whatever Girl’s response and that of others, perhaps his superior should know, perhaps not,

What shoul happen, is, you should know, from what I have read, you are in the truth, not him, and as such, are infinitely more fortunate.

Hail mary Full of Grace,
The Lord is With thee,

Note, the lord is with her,

but note what happens shortly before, when the big cool famous guy rejects the angel.

You are God’s because you aren’t unfaithful, I would pray for the best move, and make it.

We will be praying for you, and many others who have been treated without the utmost dignity they deserve, simply for being huan, the very image of God (which is quite cool to say the least), and more than that, for acting like Him.

You are permitted in theology to inform the man’s superior, but with the children, do what is best for them, whatever you know it to be.

What a snake! He’s more interested in his love life than his kids!?!?! BTW how old are your children? tots? teens? How are they handling this?

Saint Rita please intercede on behalf of this troubled family.Amen.

Is there a morals clause in his employment contract with the seminary? I just wonder… as spiritual consequences seem not to faze him, perhaps temporal ones would wake him up?

I don’t know if there is a clause in his contract at the seminary about personal behavior but I’m contemplating emailing his superior with my concerns regarding his treatment of our children. Our oldest daughter is grown and on her own and the other two are teenagers. They are angry and confused because they don’t understand how he can be a practicing Catholic and yet treat them so badly. Needless to say they do not want to attend mass anymore and want nothing to do with religion. I have my work cut out for me because of the damage he has done.

Sounds like you have a grudge and want to hurt him to me.

I do not have a grudge but want my children to have a happy and healthy relationship with their father and that’s just not happening but getting worse everyday. As parents we are responsible for their spiritual upbringing and all the work we did together doing that was destroyed by his arrogance and selfish desires.

This man is not living up to his fatherly duties.Where is it written that Dad can divorce his children? And of course if you say anything then it just sounds like sour grapes or worse. This guy needs a reality check Pronto!

One day,he’s going to wake up and rue the day he distanced himself from his children, better that day come sooner than later. These sorts of family cancers continue to grow and grow until some one or something intervenes.

Maybe he compartmentalises the different areas of his life and so doesn’t see the contradictions in how he behaves.
