Is hell a physical place, a place of eternat suferring, or is it just being eternally seperated from God trough death?

It just concerns me when the temptations of this earth, the wanting a of our flesh lead us to believe things (such as we all go to heaven, or we all get a second chance at death) , when Jesus, God himself said such radically different things.

Should we believe a mystic or the wanting a of our heart over Jesus Christ?

I personally believe such things are from Satan himself who wishes us to believe it, who deceives us, and who rejoices in every soul he destroys because of it.

Matthew 25

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ 40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,[g] you did it to me.’ 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Note that the damned call him Lord and yet are accursed to hell for not living for Christ during their lives. They did not treat others as if they were Christ.

It seems by calling him Lord , and seeing this majesty and judgement, they would say "I’m sorry I change my mind, but Jesus does not indicate any such option, on the contrary he castes those calling him Lord into hell.

Jon,
I noticed that you are a candidate. And it is a real journey to get acquainted with the faith since there is so much to it. And there always seems to be something that we learn at every age.

But the church does say that the sacrament of the sick should be administered a few minutes after death just in case the soul has not yet left the body. We don’t really know at what moment when the soul leaves. And wouldn’t you like the benefit of the doubt?

The other part about Maria Simma, that is of course completely up to you what you wish to do with it. So I am only expressing what I think might be the case. And this certainly is not a teaching of the church, nor is it against it if understood properly. But as I said, I wouldn’t bet my eternity on it even tho I may think it may be true.

May God our Father give you grace and peace.

I agree that the anointing of the sick should be performed. Even after they appear dead. Death is definitely a process not an instant.

That said, the anointing of the sick is not a magical incantation that automatically provides heaven for the person.

True, I am a candidate. So was Scott Hahn and Cardinal Newman at one point. I’m not saying I am remotely close to those gentlemen in my theological knowledge, but it tends to bug me when people read I am a candidate and dismiss my opinion because of it. Dismiss my argument on its merits not my status in the church.

CCC1532 The special grace of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick has as its effects:
  • the uniting of the sick person to the passion of Christ, for his own good and that of the whole Church;
  • the strengthening, peace, and courage to endure in a Christian manner the sufferings of illness or old age;
  • the forgiveness of sins, if the sick person was not able to obtain it through the sacrament of Penance;
  • the restoration of health, if it is conducive to the salvation of his soul;
  • the preparation for passing over to eternal life.

Good points.

I agree. I have heard some saints say that certain people got a chance to repent just before they died. We can think of the thief on the cross as a good example. But, there’s nothing to say that it is granted to everyone. Why would Jesus warn about being prepared for death constantly if we all were guaranteed one last chance anyway?

I don’t believe in that mystic someone cited either.
