Is Hell for eternity?

Some priests don’t know if a soul in hell stays for eternity or just “dies”. What is the Church’s teaching on this?
 
Hi,

Well priests have an obligation to know the basic teachings of the Church—and this is one of them. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (#1035) clearly states: “…The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs.”
