FireFromHeaven

I used to believe that hell was only for a certain period of time. I learned this from an article written by a Jewish convert. The link is here: judeochristianity.org/hell.htm. I always believed hell was temporary as what God burned and tormented people forever. But now I am not so sure. Please help. God bless and may the Holy Spirit inspire your answers.

Could you elaborate on why you believe this? Also please read the article. It is very well written.

Isnt God going to destroy death itself in the end?

If he destoys death how can death still exist in the souls in hell?

Paul I think that is another believe on the afterlife that the souls of those who would go to hell are instead annihilated. This may be true. If you agree with this could you elaborate?

Firefromheaven,

I dont think i believe that because in the bible it says the devil and his followers will be thrown in the lake of fire to be tormented forever

But i wonder because ive heard God will destroy death ,and dont the souls of the damned live in a state of spiritual death?

God will destroy death ,but death will still live on in the souls in hell?

Sorry guys, no loopholes.

Mathew 25:45

**Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels. **

Jude 1:7

In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

There are more.

Yes hell is forever… May Jesus have Mercy and pardon on all who are about to die tonight

Yes, hell is forever. But remember, we have all of this time on earth to prepare ourselves for heaven; purgatory is temporary. C an be be a depression of not seeing God.

God doesn’t make your judgment, you do. You know t he commandments of the church and not fowlling these requires punishment.

It isi not God that places us into hell, but ourselves for no following his directions on getting to heaven

God bless you

Matthew 25:46 message is one often repeated.“And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

2Thes.1: 9 “They shall suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might”

Heb.6: 2 “with instruction about ablutions, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment”

Yes, hell like heaven being mans freewill choice; are ETERNAL

The Church teaching:

CCC 1035 The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of Hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into Hell, where they suffer the punishments of Hell, “eternal fire.” The chief punishment of Hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs.

The Bible and the Church make it fairly clear that hell is likely enough to be eternal, (Enough that it is considered doctrine, as far as I’m aware). Whatever “eternal” will be to us when we die, we can’t really know, but regardless, if you reject the only infinite source of life for what is perhaps an infinite source of non-life, it does make sense that such a thing would last forever.

Also keep in mind that once we die we most likely will not be in a timeline as we are on earth. The soul is eternal and lives forever. Once our body dies our soul still lives. We do not know if we will experience the passage of time as we do on earth now.

In the final judgement ALL people, including the damned, will have their bodies raised. How terrible it will be for those who are damned to see those going to heaven and to know they will never be able to experience it. It is painful to think about now on earth.

The death Jesus came to destroy was the barring of heaven before his resurrection. Until Jesus came there was no possibility of resurrection of the body and no entrance to heaven for any of the souls who merited it.

That is why we say in the creed that Jesus decended in Hell (in Greek, the place of the dead, not the damned) and on the third day he rose again. This is such a wonderful image. Jesus gathered those (Moses, Abraham, etc.) who had merited heaven and took them with him to heaven when he rose on the third day. Their souls on that day were in heaven with Christ.

The second part of the creed refers to the resurrection of the body at the end of time.

St_Hilary:
God tells us that one mortal sin will send us to hell.

Remember, God doesn’t send us to hell, we send ourselves.

God has givenn us rules to ffollow, and if we disobey these rules, we know the consequences.

Yes, hell if forever.

Now Purgatory is not forever. One stays in purgaatory as lond as his sins are cleansed

God bless you
