So, I just had a great confession today and after leaving work my girlfriend asked me for two dollars so she can buy a fake id online. I said yes and sent her the two dollars. I soon realized i’m a dummy and this is helping someone in their vice and thats a mortal sin. I told her please send me the two dollars back as I think i’ve just commited Mortal Sin. She sent it back and now im sitting here super bummed bc its only been a few hours and I’ve already messed up 😦 Does this count as a mortal sin?? Can I not recieve the Eucharist??? I really dont remember if I knew if it was 100% a mortal sin or not I looked it up on wikipedia the list of mortal sins and i think it clearly is. Thank you, God Bless. (very worried I partially knew and did it anyways! im very scrupulous)

Say an act of contrition, and discuss this with a priest in confession. Especially if you’re scrupulous.

Well, you asked for the $2 back, so you didn’t do it, did you? I don’t think you had all three of the conditions anyway.

Thanks. Thats my issue though like I dont remember if I 100 percent knew at the time im going to err on the side of caution and confess to my priest. Just sucks because I really wanted to make it all the way till mass without committing a mortal sin.

A fake ID for $2? 😂. My son just told me this past weekend that he has one, and paid $60 for a 2-pack. No, I don’t approve, but just thought it’s funny that your girlfriend found one for $2.

As to your question, I think you are fine. You didn’t realize at the time what you were doing, and when you reflected on it, you not only asked for your money back, but you told her why, which I think is an awesome witness to your girlfriend about your love for God. I wish my son learned from you.

Always cracks me up on CAF how many people specifically ask if something is a mortalsin, as though otherwise it doesn’t matter and as if there is some super clear bright line in sin classification.

Always cracks me up that Americans can kill for their country, die for their country, elect their leaders, buy a house, get a credit card, get married… but not drink at 18/19. It’s the height of absurdity.

Taking up arms and shooting to kill enemies of the state? Minimal maturity required for that tiny decision. Getting married and starting family? No brainer!
Having a beer at lunch? Woaaaaah…slow down cow boy… this is the biggest decision you’ll ever make.
