In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,and the Word was God.
But in the beginning, there was no English language, or Latin, or Greek, or Aramaic, or Hebrew, (or Sanskrit, or Chinese, or Farsi, or any other human language for that matter).

So the “Word” from the above quote could not have meant any syllable, sound, or written text from any human language.

It must have a significance that is beyond our languages.

It follows that any description we give of the “Word” using a human language is at best an approximation, guess, or just conventional agreed upon tradition.

So when we discuss detailed human language descriptions of the “Word” that come from different cultural backgrounds and argue over which one is accurate, I don’t know if God laughs or cries or both.

I suppose He must have infinite patience, so I suspect laughs. 😉

It’s not that you are your own savior. There is certainly Divine Grace - to the point that even a person’s longing for God is considered the result of Divine Grace, let alone any actual spiritual progress.

You seem to mistake taking personal responsibility for yourself for being your own ‘savior’.

It’s like taking music lessons, having the teacher give you all the instruction and wisdom etc. about music you could imagine, and then whining that you are expected to actually do some practicing on your own.

The complaint against endless incarnations until you get it right also tends to come from a perspective that wants an easy, quick way to God - such as a pledge of allegiance, membership in a club and keep to a few simple rules.

I don’t think you’ll find any Catholic saints of those types.
(Of course, I’m not suggesting they believe in reincarnation).
The Divine is found within and enlightenment can only be reached by working that idea to an emptiness. That was my experience.

It is only analogous to music in that both can be practiced.

For your kind information,Hindu trinity is not like Christian trinity.Thank you.
If I am not wrong , there is one common matter in both Hindu’s & Christian’s Trinity concept : 3 dieties make one God.

I never realy considerd hinduism.
Only Christian denominations and Islam.

It seems Hinduism is older then I thought, and I see no reason to remain ignorant of it.

Dose hindu religion have any fruits to show for itself, such as resurections…miracle healings…etc…etc?
The oldest religion in the world is that of the Australian Aboriginal People. It is well over 40,000 years old. Some versions of it are still practiced by a small minority of Aboriginal Australians.

Buddhism along with the Jain religion began around 2500 years old.

Hinduism is a off shoot of the older Vedic system which has been traced back at least 3000 years.

Well, perhaps our brother Cathopologist can explain it nicely. But I also have few knowledge about hinduism and I will try to explain the difference between holy trinity and the so called Hindu trinity. You know that Hinduism is a very contradictory religion(though I respect their deities like krishna or some soft minded deity). The Hindu 3 Gods are very different.Hindus claim that they see one God in their many gods, and gods are the aspects of God.So here trinity is not a matter.the supreme 3 gods(brahma,Vishnu and shiva) of present hinduism considered to be the 3 real aspect of one God Param Brahmn. But they need some power also like other hindu goddesses like Durga, kalika,Lakshmi.Saraswati etc etc.And you saw that they have also Ganesha and Kartika. So not only the 3 supreme deity, but their wives and children are also the aspects of so called one deity. But now lets see the Vedas that is claimed to be the major religious book of Hinduism. But In the 4 Vedas,I never found the present days hindu Gods as supreme deity. The chief Vedic God is Indra,Agni,Savita(sun),Yama,Varun, vayu etc etc.But you saw that though hindus claim that Vedas are their major books but in reality, the Gods of Vedas have a minor role in hinduism.hindus Just worship all Puranic god as the supreme aspects of God most of Puranic god is disappeared in Veda.there is a Vishnu, and rudra and prajapati in Veda but their roles are minor and few hymns are sacred to their names, but later in Purana they became the supreme aspect of One God.but according to rig Veda, the 33 Gods(not gods, but Gods),and all of them are the real supreme Gods.So if we take the vedas as the major books then there are 33 chief deities are the aspect of Supreme God.If we take the Puranic gods as the aspect of real God then we also have to take 3 Gods and their family as the real aspects of Param Brahmn. And demi gods of puranas, who are the supreme Gods of vedas, they are also the aspects of God.And now finally many pagans also believe in 3 gods but they are not like trinity. And if you read Hindu Purana, then you will find the quarrel between the family of Gods. And Puranas have many classifications Which puranas are sacred to Vishnu, here Vishnu or his incarnation Krishna is the supreme being and Shiva has a minor role, and the puranas, that are sacred to Shiva,in this Purana Shiva appeared as supreme being, and here vishnu has a minor role.So we saw the conflict between vadas and Puranas, even we saw the conflict between Puranas vs.Puranas.So hinduism has no trinity Like christians. Here our friends explained our trinity very well and now I hope you will understand the difference between other 3 Gods and trinity.but I am scared that, maybe you know more clear explanation about Hinduism,so please ask Cathopologist. He will make the differences much easier for you because he is a former Brahmin.though I have read many hindus scriptures but since he is an ex Brahmin and was a practicing Hindu,so he can explain it much better than me or others. So please ask cathopologist,if you need more difference between the trinity and hindu 3 Pagan types Gods and their family.
God bless you.

Hinduism canot fairly be judged based of what a different faith says is right or wrong.

Christians were involved in a simular system called slavery. I don’t think any system treated people MUCH worse then slavery did. And it took a war to end it, not christianity itself…LOL you would think christians would have been bleesed with atleast enugh wisdom to know that was wrong.

But in some places christians seemingly STILL are racist.
So why judge hinduism?

Its hard to get information because I don’t know even one hindu.
My father is Hindu. And a Brahmin, at that. For 16 years of my life, i had been attending the annual Kali Puja at my aunt’s (‘puja’ means ritualistic worship). After i turned to the Faith, many facts of this religion were laid bare before me for the first time.
The Puja starts late at night and scores of people attend. There is a defined liturgy, a priest, a terrifying idol of the goddess Kali with her bare inky limbs adorned with gold all over, 6 goats,1 buffalo; now-and-then a chicken or two are included. The sacrifices begin at an “auspicious” hour, which is roughly always around 2 in the morning. The bells toll, the goddess’ scythe is brought out and blood squirts out. My brother n i still shudder when we remember those nights.I can’t believe i was part of such arcane proceedings. The nights are ALWAYS moonless.

However, the basic motive is the same, and it reflects a deep understanding of parts of the Truth. The animals’ blood satiate the goddess’ wrath…what is she so enraged about? You guessed it- peoples’ sins, for which blood is to be shed in expiation. Do u see the pattern? A deep consciousness of guilt.

Every morning, a devout Brahmin takes a bath, repeating a chant all the while. It goes somewhat like this: “Cleanse me and the numerous sins that have darkened my atma, thou glorious and all-merciful One!” After this he proceeds with the worship of the Sun. Do u see the pattern again?
My father still tells me that the entire pantheon of gods reflects only one god. They are all metaphors for his innumerable natures.
Granted. But then comes the twist…this eclectic choice of divinity tries to include Jesus into the race, too! Hence, Jesus is “one of the ways”, “one of the truths” and “one of the lives”. A clear inversion of His claim to being “The Way, The Truth and The Life”.

There is no doubt that the ancient sages were vouchsafed many truths, that they did recognise the existence of the Divine. The catechism clearly says in the very first Chapter that man is a religious being, constantly seeking God Who made him.

And about the caste, of course it is exploitative! Though this doesn’t decrease the Hindus’ culpability, the regime of cut-throat parochialism of the Crusades, witch-hunts, burnings at stake,Machiavellian politics in religion, unbelievable corruption, militant jihad, the general decadence of the West…the list is endless on his side. And may i remind ourselves that neither our Scriptures nor our Saints teach any of these.

**That all from notself seems to be correct, or hinduism may even be much more older than 3000 years. About the miracles, they have much more powerful miracles in their theology. Such as, in one case a Hindu (GOD or a Saint) when coming to the help of a distresed brought a whole mountain in his hands to kill the oppressor.

Then they have gods who have many hands. I cannot describe all but I am sure their miracles are of much higher rank than any in Judaism, Chritianity or Islam. Information may be available on some Hindu website**.

In America at least, those who born in the Hindu religion are more steadfast in their beliefs than any other religious group. By stead fast I mean that the numbers of Hindus born in the religion who still identify themselves as following the Hindu religion has remained steady.

religions.pewforum.org/pdf/report-religious-landscape-study-chapter-2.pdf

Catholicism has lost 7.5% of those members born Catholic. If one were to exclude recent immigrants (whether legal or illegal) which inflate the number of Catholics in total, the percentage of Catholics who left would be much higher.

For whatever reasons, the Hindu religion retains its members and Catholicism is losing its members at a significant rate.

You are wrong; there is one God (Deity) and three Persons. To express it another way: there are different Persons within the One Infinite Being called God (One Deity).
In the same way the entire Hindu pantheon contains many (Persons) within the One Infinite Being called Brahman.

Yes it is older than those. It is debatable, however, if Judaism or Hinduism is older (By Judaism I mean beginning with Abraham).

Hinduism has of course claimed miracles, just as any other religion. But as far as fruits go I think one needs to consider India. It is a very impoverished country with a rigid caste system. Some Hindu’s are actively committing violence against the Church. Hindu “gurus” con the poor out of their money, etc.
So do some Protestants con the poor out of money. Ever watch those evangelical preachers on TV that say to send money and if they do they will get this and that!? I actually don’t know if they are still on TV or not anymore - I avoid most of those types of shows. I know that Jimmy Swaggart is still on and that guy can pump out some tears for Jesus and he used to ask for money - I don’t know if he still does.

Anyway, as for violence against the Church - it is not a religious duty for Hindus to do such a thing, unlike islam which states very clearly to do such things against all non-muslims.

I thought the caste system was supposed to be going away? I would figure that unless it is a ‘grass roots’ attempt at doing such a thing - the government would be just telling us a bunch of hogwash about that and that it is firmly in place.

As for the ‘the regime of cut-throat parochialism of the Crusades, witch-hunts, burnings at stake,Machiavellian politics in religion, unbelievable corruption, militant jihad, the general decadence of the West…’ you have a lot to learn there!

The Crusades were called after centuries of muslim blood letting - killing, torture, stealing, enslaving, destroying, subjugation, etc. And everyone gloms onto the one time when the Crusaders misbehaved in Jerusalem while forgetting the muslims, 30 years later, killed more than the Crusaders did. I am not justifying their behavior - but I am sick of people thinking that all the Crusaders should have obeyed the morals of the 20th-21st centuries when they had to fight, face to face, with the muslim hordes - as did the Hindus!

The Hindus were just as brutal! Except that in both cases they did not do what the muslims did - go for the women and children. It seems the muslims have the appetite for that while no one else, except the Communists and Nazis, did.

History of jihad scroll for the history of the jihad in India, and also for the Crusades - and other jihads against others.

And as for the decadence in the West - I think you need to look at your own country before bashing others!

Just as the muslims bash us for the same thing - they also have a lot of decadence in their religion/societies! they just label it ‘allah said it was ok’ so then they are ok with it. eg: weekend marriages, pediphilia, honor killings, etc.

Wow - that is a lot of information about the Hindu gods. Thanks though - it is more than I knew before your explanation.

I am not disputing your post - all I would like to know is how do they know that the Aboriginal religion is 40,000 years old? Did they have something written? It seems that unless it was on a rock it would be long gone. Or do they go by art on the rocks and then date that with scientific methods?

I am just curious. I don’t know anything about that religion.

According to my very intelligent Hindu friend from school: “Hinduism, in my culture, is a calling.”

…he said something like that, but that’s probably why they take it so seriously. It’s tradition–and a flexible one, I might add. :yup:

Ironically Yours. ❤️

*The Vedas *. They’re the oldest of Sanskrit Literature and the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism, dating back from about 1500-500BCE. You learn about them and more here:

Not to toot Jainism too much, but Jainism dates way, way before Buddhism. Mahavira simply revived Jainism, but he didn’t found it.😃

It is my understanding that anthropologists date the religion from the time of settlement of Australia. The religion is oral. I also understand that anthropologists consider oral histories to be more accurate than written ones in passing down information. Cultures with strong oral histories have “internal controls” by having younger memory holders recite in front of older memory holders and are judged based on accuracy. In some cultures children with exceptional natural memories are selected and trained for these duties.

The Celts considered the death of a Bard to be a worse tragedy than the death of a king or great warrior.
When texts are copied additions and deletions can be made without the control of public comparison between 1st and 2nd editions. Hand transcriptions of texts can be particularly vulnerable to additions and deletions by the copyist.

Interesting. I just looked it up and it appears that the Jains predate Buddhism by about 400 years at least.

Thanks for the correction. 🙂
