It is not my intention here to be a judge. When I think of all the Holocaust, Natural Disaster, and some diseases that befall man, women, and child. I often wonder if God has His hand in it hoping someone who has been afflicted will turn their heart toward God in humble submission, remorse and love. Even the bible says that God’s rain falls on the good and the bad. My heart goes out in particular to the innocent who contract the HIV disease through no fault of their own. But what bespeaks of those who are promiscuous heterosexual and homosexual who contract HIV Disease ? Is this a punishment from God due to the gravity of Sin ?

I get really uncomfortable when people start saying that this or that is a punishment for sin. I think it can easily turn into a quick, blanket way to blame the victim and stop people from getting the help they need for their communities.

God is all loving and all good. God does not do evil.

God allows us free will, and men do evil. God can make good come out of evil. So, while a disease or disaster is the consequence of someone exercising their free will (or in the case of natural disaster a consequence of the fallen state of the world due to Original Sin) God can indeed bring good out of it including repentance and embracing the Gospel. However, people remain free to accept or reject God’s love.

They reap what they sow. Their own choices and actions have consequences. God does not “punish” them with AIDS or any other disease or calamity.
Is this a punishment from God due to the gravity of Sin ?
No.

Is it a punishment from God if a person walks out on thin ice, falls through, and drowns? Is it a punishment from God if a drunk driver loses control of his car and kills himself and, perhaps, others?

The consequences of an action are the results of engaging in reckless, dangerous, behavior. I suspect that, rather than inflicting punishment on such people, God feels great sorrow that his children have misused their freedom to act in ways that bring destruction upon themselves.

True however; those of us who have faith and an equitable amount of humble fear in God which is the beginning of all wisdom. And despite the fact that our faith tells us that our God is also a merciful and loving forgiving God. We sinners are still held accountable before the throne of God for our misdeeds because some of us have thrown His Commandments in the sewer. For a Catholic a contrite heart seeking forgiveness in the sacrament of penance (“only”) removes us from our soul being thrown into hell. There still remains another debt to be paid for insulting God and disregarding His Commandments.

WE ARE SAVED STRICTLY BY GODS MERCY.

as someone once said pain is the outcome of sin… so, i guess the answer is Yes…

I think this is the wrong way to look at the matter. Consequences for sin are a precious gift. When God allows us to wallow in sin without any inconvenience or discomfort, we are completely undone.

Amen.
Being the parent of an HIV infected son, I know (as does he) that
God had nothing to do with it. It was free will behavior on my son’s part.
