HI

I would like to know whether it is sin to see Horoscope.

Thanks in advance

Had seen a program a few years ago where a woman was interviewed ; she was the former chair person of the Astrological society of a big city - had taught herslef to become an expert in the field ; she talked of how she was able to access power of the fallen forces but kept having lot of problems in her own personal life ; was able to repent and come to our Lord .

Similarly, there are incidents of families facing problems and God revealing to them through holy priests gifted with charisms , the presence of horoscope leaflet in the home (often an incident the family themselves had forgotten about !) as a source of evil influence and also problems related to unrepentance of entering pagan temples , where often there is expectation for all who enter in, to bow down to the idols !

True, much of such behaviors could have its origin in the lukearmness of faith and hence such incidents often in turn can serve to reinvigorate the faith in our True God - just as satanists who have used the Eucharist sacrilegiously have come to realise what is involved and have come back into The Church !

Just that the path back may be long and tortuos and cannot be presumed to always happen !

And is it not a revelation of our fallen nature, to reach out for the forbidden and damaging things instead of using those minutes to reach out for God’s Word - to hear the Father’s Voice through a Spirit that is All Holy and does not stay in the presence of lies and impurities !

Come O Holy Spirit , come , through the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary !

Yes it is a sin, despite what popular culture says.

Here’s what the Catechism says about it:
Divination and magic
2115 God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.
2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.
Hope this helps.

It is a sin to read a Horoscope and put any faith in it.

If you read it accidently or comically it is not a sin. However, be careful - if you start putting any merit into it, it becomes one.

I would recommend even avoiding reading it.

Casually reading your horoscope could be a doorway into something else. Be very careful. I avoid it at all costs, as I’ve seen what a little interest in the occult can do.

Blessings!

In Christ,
Cathe

If people actually saw how useless horoscopes are, they would lose the desire to read them.

I saw a program where this fellow, I think is name is Randi, went into a college classroom, and was presented by the professor, as an expert in ESP and astrology. Randi, asked all the students, to write down their date of birth, and the next day, he would give them their horoscopes. The next day, Randi handed out each persons individual horoscope. After they had read them, many of the students shared how amazed they were at the accuracy. Before long, Randi was being treated as a man of great wisdom. However, Randi then told the students to exchange their horoscopes, and which they did. The students read the horoscope they had received and look perplexed. Many began to express that this was the same horoscope as their own. Eventually, Randi explained what he had done. He in fact, gave everyone in the class, the same horoscope. He never looked up anyone’s horoscope, but pulled one from an astrological book that morning, and copied it. He then went on to explain, why they had thought the horoscope they received was about them. He explained that because all human beings share similar personality traits, and events in their lives, and that because horoscopes are so general, any human being at any time could relate to the given horoscope.

This is in fact what horoscopes are. Nothing more than general information about human beings, and what you might experience day to day. They tell you nothing other than, you’re a human being, living the human experience, that every other human experiences.

I read up on this recently.

Horoscope uses what is called the “Forer effect”, the “Barnum effect”, or “personal validation fallacy” (different terms for the same idea). You can do an internet search on any of these phrases to get a nice description (essentially, what the poster above explained.)

It’s quite amazing how we, humans, work… how easy it is to be misled by horoscope.

Randi is very good at what he does. People should read up on him. He’s also challenged many well-known “psychics”.

Yes, Jesus is all we need!

I read mine from time to time just for entertainment’s sake (which is usually what horoscopes are advertised as anyway).
I never take it to heart or believe it’s going to “tell my future” and I usually make a joke of it no matter what it says.
Like if it says I’m going to have a bad day, then if something bad happens I can say that “my horoscope said this would happen!” lol 😛

There may be people who would think even reading it is bad but I don’t consider it sinful as long as you’re not actually trying to divine anything from it, but that’s just my personal interpretation.

If you feel convicted against doing it then it’s probably best for you not to.

I once thought the same that there was nothing to it but I read it just for fun. However, one day, I thought if it were just for fun, what was it really fun in reading this stuff - if it does not help me at all in my spiritual life by getting into this - it is better not to have such stuff filling up my mind.

I totally agree with you. To even do it for fun and talk and laugh about it might encourage someone else to do it. Christians should ignore it altogether. We take God seriously and need to put our trust only in Him.
