We should be joyous ‘saints’ of God, but the humour that we all know is the wrong type of humour. 😦

Im struggling to think of just one joke that doesn’t involve a dig at someone.

Although I hear Padre Pio used to love telling humorous stories. (and clean ones, Im sure 🙂 )
Well, there’s digging at someone to make them feel bad, and digging at them in a humorous manner that also encourages humility (and allowing them to return the favor in a good-mannered way helps the virtue go round).

Encouraging humility is a very good thing, and humor is sometimes the best way to do it. There’s a big difference between victimizing someone, and “roasting” them. Honestly, I laugh hardest at “roasts” that are directed at myself, or which in someway reflect on me 😛

Peace and God bless!

Hi,

I guess I will be sinning tonight because we have a christian comedian coming to our church.

Like others have already posted----if it is putting someone down it is sinful. Also the language comedians use are sinful.

I never knew christian comedians existed until this woman came to our church a year ago and boy was she funny. My face hurt from laughing so hard and my eyes kept tearing from laughing. I will be bringing tissues tonight.👍 At the end she gives her testimony and the gospel message.👍 😃

A priest in my area used to be writer for SNL… Granted the material on SNL is questionable… However, Fr has learn how to keep the laugh coming in a Christian way. I have always enjoy his homilies (sermons). Short, funny (therefore you remember) and to the point. 🙂

I’m not sure what that means…

Maybe you didn’t catch the word USED TO be a writter for SNL.

Fr. did is writting days for SNL; BEFORE he heard the call from God and became a priest.

Clearly God gift him with the ability to make people laugh.

However Fr. has learn to do it in a Christian way! He therefore shares stories for his homily (sermon) that are clean, funny, short and to the point. I remember them better, because they make me laugh. People tend to remember things that they have strong reactions too.

Hi,

OOPS I misunderstood you. Sorry:o

I use to wonder myself if God had a sense of humor whenever one of my illnesses would rear its ugly head. Humor is the only thing that keeps me sane when I am down and I don’t feel well.

I’ve come to learn that if I can make fun of my ailments, it makes it that much easier for me to cope. I know it sounds weird but my friends tell me that I am much more funnier when I’m abnormal than normal. Then again, I haven’t been “normal” since I was 12. If that makes any sense. I guess humor is one of God’s gifts to get us through the rough times in our lives.

here’s a sample: this is a prayer/poem I wrote a few yrs. ago. I wrote many more over the years based upon what I was going through at the time from the 12 Pains of a Hospital to It’s Beginning to Look alot Like a Flare Up. I’ve even written a few for my GI and his staff because they think it’s hilarious. I figure if my GI laughs, he will give me a good report and not put me through any more tests.

Now I lay me down to rest
with bottles of meds upon my chest
if I should die before I awake
that’s one less pill I’ll have to take

Now I lay me down to rest
this disease is a pain in the (censored for virgin eyes)
I must confess

I’d give anything to be normal
if for just a day
Please hear my prayer
Dear Lord I pray

Amen 😃

I’d like to read some of your other stuff you referred to. I especially like the title “Its Beginning to Look a lot Like a Flareup” 🙂

The Bible says that we must make account for every idle word.
There’s also the passage “he that regards the day should regard it to God” What dos this mean? Is all humor and non essential conversaton a form of vanity? Would any of the Saints ever have had ‘idle converstions’, or joked about anything?
I think humor could be part of one’s conscience, within whose heart the inner law of God is inscribed. Moral conscience is a judgment of practical reason about the moral quality of a human action.Tasteless humor could be a sin against charity (Love.) Do fat jokes make fat people laugh on the outside and cry on the inside? Charity is the love Jesus taught.

Like most things it can be abused to make it sinful. There are many good clean jokes and I’m sure God must have a great sense of humor, otherwise Heaven is going to be really really boring…

You should note that Jesus had a great sense of humor. The parable of Lazarus as the beggar is a classic. Lazarus was one of Jesus’ best friends and was very wealthy but Jesus casts him in the role of a beggar that the rich man ignores.

We are created in Gods image, if we have humour then god has humour. I sure look forward to hearing the stand-up routine of Jesus Christ in the heavens:D

Thankyou
Michael Ivan Mendieta:)
