I am dating a woman who is 8 years older than I am. Due to health issues, she had a hysterectomy. I am being told that I cannot marry this woman because there will be no children as part of this union and since I am still capable of having children, I should look for someone else. The woman and I share our faith, pray together, attend Mass together and are quite happy. Are we wrong to want to marry?

Thank you.

These links should help you understand the Catholic Church’s teaching about marriages where one or both of the spouses are infertile, advanced in age, impotent. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by these links, please contact Catholic Answers directly.
