He practiced the religion of his tribe, the Quraish, who were polytheistic. One of their major gods, interestingly enough, was named Allah.

Mohammed also traveled extensively with his Uncle Abu Talib. It was on these travels that he was exposed to Christianity and Judaism. Later he tried to incorporate many Jewish and Christian ideas into Islam.

Actually the moon goddess was named alilah (similar, but not the same). This is the reason you see Islam represented by the crescent moon. Mohammed’s view is very similar to that of the heretical Arians who denied the divinity of Christ but sitll considered him a Savior… so more than likely Mohammed was in contact with local Arians who talked to him about their religion.

The crescent moon is not an Islamic symbol and did not exist in the time of Prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him).

Have you ever read the Quran? If you read it, you will understand how it could not have been a copy and paste job.

In terms of the topic being discussed. I do know that in Egypt, some people do not know much about Christianity (from a Christian), but they learn a lot about it from the Quran. They know that Christians believe that Jesus is the son of god and that they believe in a triune godhead. They also know that Christians believe that Jesus was crucified. They know all about Jesus’s miracles (some in addition to what Christians believe).

Mohamed (peace be upon him) most certainly did NOT practice polytheism. He believed in one God, but with no set religion. He denied, like messengers before him, that there could be more than one God or that God can be represented by statues.
