I was wondering what are peoples thoughts on prophecy for the end times as well as what are your thoughts on Israel’s importance.

Christ Himself said that we would know not the hour or the day. His Word is good enough for me, so I don’t concern myself with trying to guess at something He said was beyond us.

I put no stock in “prophesy” for the “end times”…this old world has been plodding along quite well for a looooooong time…I expect it will for at least as loooooong. Funny thing, most “prophesy” does no one any good any way…no one knows the “prophesey” has been fulfilled until it’s been “fulfilled” and then someone hits their forehead and says…“Ah ha! So that’s what that meant!!!”(Whether that’s what it really meant or not, “someone” will claim “fulfillment”.

Catholics certainly accept end times prophecy. We simply do not subscribe to the scenarios laid out by Hal Lindsey and Tim Lahaye.

The Lord will come like a thief in the night. No one knows the day nor the hour, and the day and time is not subject to human speculations. Israel is important in that scripture says that there will be a remnant and conversion of the Jews. Trials and tribulations befall all of us, just as the generations before us suffered through their own trials.

I may very well be dead before the end of time. If scripture and history give even remote clues to the end times, then it is quite likely that I will be six feet under before Jesus comes for the final judgment. In the meantime, it is important for me to live my life for Jesus. I must be prepared in this life to live in the next life. Most of the people that will have ever lived will be dead before the end times come. The various interpretations of the end times prophecies will have had little effect on those that are already alive in Christ in heaven except for the resurrection of their bodies and the revelations of the final judgment.

I find value in studying the end times, but I find no value in the many rapture and end times theories that are currently in vogue. In fact, almost all of them are refuted by scripture.

Matthew 6:34
“So do not worry about tomorrow;
for tomorrow will care for itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

The Fig Tree is Jerusalem. Figs are good works of the Jews. Jesus withered the Fig Tree with no fruit. Jerusalem was destroyed 70 AD.

The Fig Tree is restored in Jerusalem and Israel.

Jesus returns maybe within a lifetime of seeing that.

Israel is indeed important. Should you be concerned about prophecy?
I believe that you should be aware and be on watch. As no one can know the day or hour, But for God the father. Christ tells us to be ready. As it will come like a thief in the night. In other words you need to be prepared for if it does happen to come in this period of time you don’t to not be ready. Jesus said that there would be signs.
We are to be on look out, but can not live our live as if its going to happen tomorrow.

Its kinda like my grandmother always had a roast in the freezer just in case someone from out of town dropped in she had it there to prepare.

I think that many people make too much out of “Isreal” today. Isreal today is not the same as Isreal was 2000 years ago. Besides, if you are into that stuff, there is a small issue with “squaters” on the Temple Mount. I really doubt that the Muslims will leave that site anytime soon.

They can be blown off with military might.

I wonder about people who tell others not to watch for end signs. Satan loves to sneak up on people. Antichrist will hit minds so hard that people won’t know if they are coming or going, there will be miracles they won’t even believe. They will think they are already dead and in Hell and give up hope. Many strange things will happen near the end. And do happen, they always have for some of us.

We need to see the signs so they can stay strong and endure through it. And we need to be wary of those who tell others to ignore what Jesus taught, no matter what it is.

In Gods time the “squatters” will be taken care of.

Wheter we all agree on it or not, according to the scriptures, Israel is the vortex of end-times prophecy.

you’ve got it backwards at the end…

Jesus returns and restores Israel and Jerusalem. any attempt on our part to “bring about” Jesus’ return is fruitless and dangerous (just look at what is happening in Israel today). i don’t go in with the whole “fig tree” reference but i don’t discount it either. i just think it might be offensive to our jewish friends. whenever we start to interpret God’s actions (especially saying things like “you were destroyed because you didn’t follow God”) when He has not interpreted them for us is foolish.

Israel is a secular state and has nothing to do with the Bible. Christianity replaced Judaism, the Jews are still important to God because of the promise he made to David but they are NOT spearheading anything, what on earth is up with this protestant obsession with “Israel”???

Don’t you guys know anything? Don’t you know it was founded by secularists who were looking for a new basis for “Hebrew” identity apart from Jewish religion? Look up Theodore Herzl’s writings.

This is sheer historical ignorance.

Way to pull the rug from under God’s prophecy.

And before you start calling people “obsessed” with Israel, read the name of the land and people God calls them in his prophecy.

Here is a starter-
Joel 3
"In those days and at that time,
when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
I will gather all nations
and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.
There I will enter into judgment against them
concerning my inheritance, my people Israel,
for they scattered my people among the nations
and divided up my land.

They cast lots for my people
and traded boys for prostitutes;
they sold girls for wine
that they might drink."

I happen to concur with this. I got into a heated argument in the other thread talking about the Jews so I hope to be more careful about my language on them.

The curtain in the temple had been split in two when Jesus breathed his last. It’s the era of the new covenant where the laws are written in our hearts. The commision is to spread the good news to the end of the earth.

Yet, one of the signs of the end will be when the Gospels have reached all the people of the earth. Don’t know whether we should take that seriously, but it’s logical in a way. Not until everybody is given the chance to hear the good news would God judge the world.

This inevitably include the Jews. When they accept Jesus, then he will come. "You will not see me again until you say ‘blessed is he who come in the name of the Lord.’ "

Again, it may be, it may be not, for we don’t know the time nor the hour.

The problem is you are misinterpreting that. As the other poster said, modern-day Israel is not what the Bible refers to (if you are a Christian). Just because it has the same name, does not make it so. It’s all about typology.

To Christians, the Bride or Virgin alluded to at the time was Israel. Israel is a type of the Church. The Church, if you are a Christian, supercedes the Israeli people.
Lament like a virgin girt with sackcloth for the spouse of her youth.
In scripture, this always means Israel- she is the one who God found, as in the parable, as a filthy infant in a field and raised her up to glory, but she rebelled against Him and became a whore.

The point of the book of Joel is to get the bride, Israel, to stop whoring around and repent, to go back to the one who lover her in her youth.

Jesus Christ called himself the bride-groom, and he was basically saying he was God. That’s why people got mad at him. I’m suprised some biblical scholars cannot see this. Revelation ends as the marriage of Christ and his Bride, as the union of God and Man (“God dwells with Man!”).

Who is Christ going to “marry” (allegorically speaking)?

The Israeli state?

It’s not backwards at all, Israel has been restored but not by Jesus, even though prophecy says Messiah will restore Israel. So what does that tell you?

Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Matthew 24:25 Behold, I have told you before.

Israel is very important. to say that as it is not important as it is a secular state is quite unimportant as it limits God to not being able to use the secular world or even the atheist to work his will.

Is Israel as it stands today what is referred to in end times prophecy? I can not say either way, It may very well be one of the many signs that we are to watch for. Yes as Christ said no one knows the day or hour but for the father but there will be signs.

What I do believe is that as a Christian I would have to be very careful before I choose to oppose Israel/ the Jewish people ( weather they are secular or faithful). The government of Israel may be secular, but I would have to say that the majority of the Jewish people are faithful to the religion and God. Yes they do not recognize Jesus as the Christ, But they will before the return. Israel is important and we should stand with her.

In my own experience it’s about 50/50 believers and atheists. A lot of Jews are having some cake and eating it too.

WOW!
I commend you for such a well thought out view on Israel!

Very scriptual viewpoint indeed!
