that’s what I was told. Not the country of Israel but the RCC. What is that based on?
any scriptural references?

I don’t have any resources handy but I can tell you for a fact

1. The Church is the New Jerusalem
2. The Church is the New Testament
3. The Church is the Third Temple
5. The Order of Melchizadek is the replacement of the Levite priesthood
4. Extra Ecclesia Nulla Salus

St. Paul was the first to proclaim that all baptized Christians were entitled to the promise that God had made to His chosen people, and consequently they had now become part of “the Israel of God.” He uses the name Israel several times in this sense, notably in Galatians 6:16, though many commentators treat it with great caution, as you can see in the relevant footnote here:

Our Lord’s parables allude to it. The parable of the tenants, for example, closes with the words: “Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit” (Mt. 21:43).

St. Paul is more explicit: “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham” (Gal. 3:7) and again, “Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise” (4:28).

There are other passages as well.

The fathers and doctors of the Church teach the same thing. St. Leo the Great, e.g., writes, “the True Sheep had to supersede the sheep which was its antitype” (On the Passion, VII). There are many other such references in Christian literature through the centuries.

Hi Bev,

Great question.

Its based on the State of Israel being the ORIGINAL “Chosen People” by Yahweh God [the One same God as Jesus and the Holy Spirit]

Exodus 6:7
And I will take you to myself for my people, I will be your God: and you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brought you out from the work prison of the Egyptians

The much spoken about “Promised Land” is centered on Jerusalem; the now 2,000 year old site of the THAT Promised land.

Because the function of the Old Testament has at least three GREAT reasons to exist:
  1. It is the historical account of God choosing the Jews as His One and Only Chosen; guided and protected people
  2. Because the Old Testament points dramatically and continuously to Jesus the Christ of the New Testament:
**Isa.11: 1-4 **

“There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, [DAVIDS FATHER] and a branch shall grow out of his roots.
And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD.
He shall not judge by what his eyes see,
or decide by what his ears hear;
but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked”

Isaiah 9: 6-7
“[6] For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government will be upon his shoulder,
and his name will be called
“Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
[7] Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
upon the throne of David, and over his kingdom,
to establish it, and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and for evermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this”

Which is fulfilled in and through Jesus

Luke 2: 6-10
“And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. [8] And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock.*** And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear. And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people: For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David***d. [And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying: Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will. And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us”

God, both Yahweh and Jesus; the One same God always without exception taught:

One True God

Only One True set of faith beliefs

and always just One Chosen People and in the New Testament Just One True Church

Mt. 16: 15-19
"Jesus saith to them: But whom do YOU say that I am?

Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon [YOU!] this rock I will build my church [singular] , and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.[also singular] [19] And I will give to thee [singular]** [all of] the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven."

I hope this helps I could post much more but don’t have time now.

[Rv21:1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And **I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.]

The Church, the Bride of Christ is the new Jerusalem. The habitation, heavenly Jerusalem, Christ is building of living stones for God

[1Pt2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 **ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.]

[Eph2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; 12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ**. 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 18 For ]b]through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.]

The both spoken of in Eph2 is uncircumcised Gentiles and Jews the circumcised in the flesh.

[Gal3:26 For **ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.]

[Gal6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 15 For **in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.]

[Mt21:43 **Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. 44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. 45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

[Lk1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and **the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.]

[Mt19:27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28 And **Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.]

That city is a metaphor for the Catholic Church. Much of the Book of Revelation refers to the Church, in addition to end-time prophecy.

while I thank everone for their answers, its all based on interpretation of certain verses and has no factual evidence so sorry, I am not convinced at all.
