it isn’t abuse. It would only be abuse if someone other than the priest or deacon were to give the homily. How about a strongly worded letter to the Bishop citing liturgical abuse?

He’s already explained in posts #12 and # 16 that he was being sarcastic with the suggestion to report it to the Bishop. How can this be a liturgical abuse when no rubric is violated? Can’t we leave our Bishops alone to worry about other more pressing problems. Peace, g.
I see many times advice given when there are questions about liturgical abuse to go to the Bishop. Before people go running off to the bishop, they first have to approach the priest and discuss your concerns with the priest. It also must be done in charity and concern with the priest. You also would have to show that you could not resolve this within your parish. There are many priests that do not give their homilies behind the albo and that is do to their training than anything else. I would read Jimmy Atkins books on Mass Confusion and Mass revision and he has some very good and practical advise about what is and isn’t abuse, what abuse is worth complaining about and the proper steps to take when you want to complain. A strongly worded letter is not charity to the Bishop and it will just be thrown out.How about a strongly worded letter to the Bishop citing liturgical abuse?
maybe we have too much sarcasm on CAF and if you really don’t mean it, maybe you shouldn’t post it. One reading post can’t tell the different between the sarcasm and one’s real intent. He’s already explained in posts #12 and # 16 that he was being sarcastic with the suggestion to report it to the Bishop.
Francophone, perhaps? I’ve often thought that if they want to shut me up they should tie my hands behind my back.Italian deacon?![]()
I must say, you slid that right past me…so many times we see people suggest just what you said; although yours was in humor…sorry I missed that!I suppose my sarcasm was the lowest form of wit, even if it went unnoticed.
It has just been an observation of mine that people on these boards seem to be waiting in the pews for the first opportunity to ‘pounce’ on their priest, and then look for advice hereon how to deal with it. Generally its something fairly petty, and rather than talk to their priest directly they take the anonymous approach of sounding off on the ‘interweb’; usually they are directed to take the other impersonal, possibly anonymous, and sometimes hostile approach of writing the aforementioned ‘strongly worded letter’.
THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^My question about this thread is, shouldn’t we be concerned about more important things? You know, like reforming our lives?
An acceptable practice that has been humanized and rationalized yes. While the OP has been answered (my opinion), and while I’m not ‘crazy’ over the wandering Homilist style, it happens and currently stands as an acceptable practice.![]()
I missed that one too.I suppose my sarcasm was the lowest form of wit, even if it went unnoticed.

Can you cite a valid source for this in the canons? My question about this thread is, shouldn’t we be concerned about more important things? You know, like reforming our lives?
Well, just to make sure I’m effectively making the distinction: I’m not trying to say that it is a “reasonable assertion” – but I am saying that the sarcasm is lost because it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that someone might come up with that assertion!Gorgias:![]()
And that’s what’s scary. That it seems to be a reasonable assertion.Well, if it sounds like something that we might reasonably assume a person might assert (regardless of whether they’re reasonable in asserting it!)
We communicated in fora in which we could see each others’ expressions or at least hear each others’ voices… :takethat:How on earth did we manage in the days before smilies?![]()
I wish that they would stop doing it. Most the time I can’t see them and hearing is them is worst.
The canons is not the entirety of Christian faith. Christ did not come to establish canons. We are not Christians because we follow canons. We follow Christ. Can you cite a valid source for this in the canons?
I’m sorry for being unclear. I should have put a smiley by my post. The canons is not the entirety of Christian faith. Christ did not come to establish canons. We are not Christians because we follow canons. We follow Christ.
think of that as a benefit.
I kind of thought you were kidding, but wasn’t sure…I’m sorry for being unclear. I should have put a smiley by my post.
