Hypothetically If a person was in a state of mortal sin would it be a mortal sin for them to ask a priest to hold a mass for special intentions and refrain from communion during the mass?
While they are talking to the Priest about the Mass intention the person should also ask if the Priest has time to hear his confession. Everyone should go to Confession at the very least 1/month.Hypothetically If a person was in a state of mortal sin would it be a mortal sin for them to ask a priest to hold a mass for special intentions and refrain from communion during the mass?
No, that isn’t the Church’s teaching. It’s your opinion.Everyone should go to Confession at the very least 1/month.
I never said it was Church teaching. Yes it is my opinion and is the opinion of every priest I have ever discussed the issue with. Confessions has many benefits other than the remission of mortal sin. But each to his own!Imdaman:![]()

The Church doesn’t have a actual “teaching” on when one has to go to confession. A bare minimum would be once a year along with your bear minimum times to receive communion.Church teaching is once a year. To answer the OP’s question, the only thing you can’t do while in a state of sin is receive the sacraments (other than baptism and reconciliation)
