AMEN!!!No, it is not. A lot of people here on CAF are very extreme. Don’t come here for moral guidance. Go to a priest or spiritual director instead.

Some people go out of their way to be offended at everything and anything.I disagree. Self denial is a good thing. So some puritanism as you put it, is good for us.
But before you reply, I do think that there is nothing sinful with having fun, laughing and joking.
So long as it’s done in such a way that no one else is hurt in any way.
Sure … if you want to get dumped in the first five seconds of your non-relationship.What if there is a cute girl I like? Can I get a little sassy with her? Can be a little bit of a smart ***, and tease her a little? Nothing serious, just a little playfulness.

It’s called flirting. People are playful when they flirt. Sometimes they even make jokes.Sure … if you want to get dumped in the first five seconds of your non-relationship.
Some have tender consciences and very much want to please God, others not so much. Those sound like valid questions to me.
It all depends on what your definition of “fun” is. Some people have lots of fun doing sinful things. So, is it a sin to have fun?

Get dumped for flirty teasing??
Wow, now that’s a girl I would NOT like to be friends with. Sheesh.
No it’s not wrong or immoral because it’s a slippery slope. If that’s immoral then you have to ask is it immoral to buy a house from a sinner and if it’s immoral to live in a house a sinner lived in, is it immoral to work with sinners, if it’s immoral to hire one, is it immoral to work for sinners like if your boss is not a Christian, is it immoral to shop in stores who’s owners you find out are not Christians, should you give them your money? It goes on and on. No, it’s crazy to think things like that, even Jesus ate with sinners.Seriously? Even the question about ones real estate agent??? So you think that it is immoral to hire sinners to do a job for you, or even that there is any sort of question as to whether or not it is moral??
What if you lose your reason without being drunk? If ones fun is any of the following: lusting after women, fornication, adultery, murder, robing banks, stealing cars, burning down schools, skipping Sunday Mass, getting drunk ( loosing ones reason), worshiping idols, sorcery, serious detraction, terrorism etc – then yes.
If good reasonable good fun – no.
Some saints put ashes on their food as a penance not because food is sinful. What if you lose your reason without being drunk?
I can’t remember where I saw it, but apparently some really extreme religious types would put ash on their food because they thought that even enjoying the taste of food was sinful.
It’s from C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters. It’s two demons’ correspondence, so, yes, they consider God the “enemy”.did I get that right, in this text God ius considered the enemy??
I probably should have explained it a little better for those who haven’t read the book. The book is The Screwtape Letters, by CS Lewis. It is a fictional account of letters of instructions from one demon to another on how to tempt someone. So God is considered the enemy to them. They are wary of pleasure, atleast in its natural form, because it was created by God.did I get that right, in this text God ius considered the enemy??
Here is a little quote from the Screwtape Letters, as quoted by David Fagerberg in Theologia Prima.
"Never forget that when we are dealing with any pleasure in its healthy and normal and satisfying form, we are, in a sense, on the Enemy’s ground . I know we have won many a soul through pleasure. All the same, it is His invention, not ours. He made the pleasures: all our research so far has not enabled us to produce one…God is a hedonist at heart. All those fasts and vigils and stakes and crosses are only a facade. Or only like foam on the seashore. Out at sea, out in His seas, there is pleasure, and more pleasure…He’s vulgar, Wormwood. He has a bourgeois mind. He has filled His world full of pleasures…Everything has to be twisted before it’s any use to us. We fight under cruel disadvantages."
Wow… great quote. So wise and completely accurate.
Save me a seat.I sure hope not, because I’m going straight to Hell if that’s the case. :egyptian:
Ditto. Faith building should focus on the Big Picture; not on worrying yourself to death over little things.IMHO, because people that ask questions like that find it easier to be “told” what to do, than to think for themselves. Yes, you are right it does border on the silly.
As for drinking, if you have been to a Catholic wedding reception and did not see people having fun, drinking or dancing, go back outside and check the denomination on the sign in front of the church. If it reads, “Baptist, Pentacostal”, you are in the wrong place.
When I signed up on CAF, the first question I found unreal was, “Is it a sin to work at Starbucks or buy their products?”
You wouldn’t believe the silliness. Another one was about finding out your real estate agent is gay, would you still hire him/her? Yeah, really, I kid you not.
My suggestion? Start checking out some caves to live in because it’s obvious you aren’t living in the real world.
To the OP, you are not going to change people hearts by pointing out what “you” perceive to be a “wrong”. Positive change comes from within. We are human, we fail, again and again and again. Not one of us is perfect. Sure you can strive for perfection, but it is way out of bounds. You would have to excuse yourself from the “human race”,
