As I understand it, missing Mass is a mortal sin unless there is a serious reason for not going (e.g. illness) or it would be a huge burden to find a Mass. Otherwise, Catholics are obligated to go on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
Thinking that Mass is unimportant or unnecessary is wrong and would not constitute a valid reason.
