Is it a mortal sin to not believe that Hell exists?

I have trouble accepting the Christian concept of hell, as it means I’m obliged to believe my relatives who have passed away are most likely there.

I think something pretty horrible has to have been your life to end up in hell. I hear Purgatory can be pretty bad, so, I’d say, pray for your family a lot so they can move up and outta there!

Yes…to die in a state of mortal sin…we choose hell.

One mortal sin is a horrible thing --for it separates us from God. It puts us in the the state of mortal sin. Let us if we fall into such…quickly repent out of love of God and get to confession…to receive again true life.

As to purgatory…it is the purification of a soul by God. It can be said that his love purifies the soul.

Jesus Christ mentions this place of torment, so I guess to say it doesn’t exist would be like calling Him a liar.

The church teaches that it does exist and this is in the catechism.
