Is it a praiseworthy practice to abstain from Communion occasionally out of reverence?

A priest told me once that it would help develop one’s reverence towards the Sacred Presence to abstain from receiving Communion (even if one were in a state of grace) every now and then (once a week at the maximum). Is this practice holy or recommended?

Dear friend,

Our Blessed Lord gave us the Eucharist as a means of being in Communion with Him both spiritually and physically. Its’ greatest value lies in the reality of His presence; not in our perception of it. For this reason, the Church allows us to receive the Eucharist daily. The Eucharist is all about the Lord. Ironically, to abstain in order to increase our reverence, turns our attention more to ourselves than to Him. The value of the Eucharist comes from what HE does for us; not from any attempt of ours to improve on it.

The problem with abstaining from sanctifying grace is abstaining from sanctifying grace.
