Hello. I was born and raised Roman Catholic. I am considering visiting and possibly joining a different christian church. Their core beliefs are identical to Catholics. The only difference is I believe they do not receive Holy Communion. Is this a sin? Thank you.

Hi,

If you think that all the core beliefs of Protestant churches are identical to that of the Catholic Church, you don’t really know your own religion. Before making any moves, learn you own religious heritage. You won’t find one that is richer.

Does it not matter to you that Jesus is actually present in the Catholic Eucharist? How could anyone knowingly give this up? To do so knowingly IS a very grave sin.

I suggest you get a hold of the compact disk series, “I Believe” by Marcellino D’Ambrosio. You can order it through shopcatholic.com—or phone us at 619 387 7200 and ask to talk to an apologist. You are in my prayers.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
