If the primary reason why one goes to church is for Sunday Mass, then that is what they will assume it to mean. If one goes to church for other reasons besides Sunday Mass and those equal or exceeds the amount of times one goes to church for Sunday Mass, then “going to church” will have other meanings for them.BTW: 1. I think most of us are smart enough to figure out that the OP meant Sunday Mass.
If you overheard a conversation in my home and heard someone say that they were going to church and assumed that it was for Sunday Mass, you would be wrong a majority of the time because, as I said above, “going to church” could mean going to Eucharistic devotions, going to confession, going to a rosary service, going to a daily mass, etc.
